Although I believe women should be celebrated every day, it is wonderful that we have a day in the year completely dedicated to us. International Women’s Day is this Sunday, March 8th. There are plenty of ways to celebrate being a woman and to celebrate the women in our lives that we love. You can send flowers or simply an appreciation text to the women whom you admire and are inspired by. You can join organizations like adidas’ She Breaks Barriers. Part of this initiative adidas, along with Up2Us Sports and ATTN, is introducing a digital curriculum for coaches, mentors, and role models in the sports realm for women and girls. Although I do not play sports (anymore), I do workout a lot. For me, I want to celebrate International Women’s Day by being healthy, happy, strong, and proving that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. I can do this by attending women-owned fitness studios or digital platforms, and purchase from women-owned wellness companies.

One of my fitness goals this year is to wear more color when it comes to activewear. It seems like a simple goal, but for me, I am much more comfortable wearing all black while I workout. One of my intentions for 2020 was to prioritize my recovery more than my workouts. On average I workout 5-6 days a week ranging from dance cardio, yoga, running, HIIT workouts, sculpting, boxing, and more. As a dancer my mindset is to keep going, push through the pain and injury. Unfortunately, my body no longer allows me to push through. From my neck to my feet I have issues from inflammation in my muscles to joint pains. As I get older I need to be smarter about taking care of my body if I want to continue to exercise. And I want to be that little old lady in your pilates class who is keeping up with the movements.

The number one resolution most people have in the new year ties to fitness and wellness. Whether you are looking to run a marathon, try yoga for the first time, tone muscles, lose weight, or simply start exercising, we all have a goal or two to achieve a healthier version of ourselves. In the past, my goals at the start of the year have been to try new workouts, be mindful of what I am eating, take more care of my body in terms of foam rolling and knowing when to have a rest day, and of course, lose weight/tone. This year my goal is not necessarily physical but more about confidence. My goal is to wear more colorful/ printed activewear and to wear crop tanks. You may have noticed in all of my workout videos that I share on Insta Stories, I wear head to toe black. Mind you there is absolutely nothing wrong with this and it is not something I am going to stop doing. It’s the mindset I have behind wearing all black all of the time. We all have our insecurities when it comes to our bodies. For me, wearing all black is a way of hiding my insecurities while looking at myself in the mirror. (more…)
