“She had nothing to do but to forgive herself and be happier than ever”

-Jane Austen

Happy Friday! I am back in New York after a quick weekend trip home in Ohio. It was nice to have a mini getaway and to be with my family.

I went home to watch my nieces dance recital. They both did an amazing job!! My oldest niece was in 4 pieces, and my youngest was only in one. They both knew their dances, smiled, and performed. I am so proud of them! While I was at the recital, I was able to see some of my old dance teachers. It was nice to catch up.

After the recital we went to my oldest niece’s softball game. She got 3 people out when she played 1st base. Also, scored a few times. Back in my day if you strike out 3 times you were out. Nowadays it’s you keep swinging at the pitch until you hit it…. and for some poor girls it took forever. I mean for-ev-er. Anyway, it was nice to watch her play since I never get to see her do any other activity besides dance. The rest of my trip was mostly hanging out with my parents. My dad and I played pickleball; he won 3 games, I won 1. Although I suspect he let me win it. But mostly we just like to hit the ball back and forth.

Since being back in New York I have been working and working and working. I think the most exciting part of my week was getting Miracle-Gro for my plants. Both of my plants, coppertone stonecrop and parsley, were being overly dramatic when I got back from my 5 day trip away. Drooped over, brown on the leaves, dry soil. All I had to do was give them a little water to bring them back to life….oh  the drama. Anyway, I bought plant food for the first time and now I feel like Martha Stewart.

What I am watching: I finally got around to watching the new Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls) show on Prime, Étoile. If you like the ballet and/or the quick banter of Lorelai Gilmore, then this show is for you! It’s about two prominent ballet companies in New York and Paris who decide to switch things up and collaborate. To bring excitement around their upcoming fall season, and to get people back to the ballet, they decide to trade a few principal dancers, choreographers, and composers.  The cast is mostly real dancers– Tiler Peck from the New York City Ballet is in it! I love all the dance pieces, how it’s also in French, and that they have previous Amy Sherman-Palladino shows cast members in it– Michel from Gilmore Girls and Lenny Bruce from Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Another show on Prime that I started is the limited-series The Better Sister starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks. It’s a thriller based off of a novel by Alafair Burke. A murder mystery that unravels family secrets. I have only watched 2 episodes so far and am enjoying it!

What I bought: I didn’t buy anything new this past week but am eyeing a few things. I am searching for an oyster platter for my 40th birthday party with my family. It’s a tradition for us to celebrate all the cousins 40th birthday during the 4th of July– no matter what month your birthday lies in. This is my year (crying emoji) and my meal of choice is seafood; lobster rolls, oysters, shrimp, caviar. I am pretty sure no one has an oyster platter so one must be bought. I am eyeing this pretty one for under $50. Another item that I am searching for is something to wear for the 4th. Currently I am eyeing this blue stripe dress or this navy gingham dress. However, I will be browsing around some more.

This weekend, if the weather permits, I want to go out on the town. I want to sit in a bar or on a rooftop drinking a glass or two of wine. Besides the possibility of an evening out, I will be watching the finales of the French Open; both men’s and women’s. Do my usual weekend rituals of reading,  pilates or yoga (or both!), frolic around the West Village, and enjoy what will hopefully be a beautiful weekend (fingers crossed). And, of course, watch The Tony Awards!!

Have a wonderful weekend xo
