If you have been following my blog or my snapchats (mtate24) for a while, you might have read or heard me talk about nursing a hurt leg for the past two months. To get you up to date, my left hamstring was so overworked and inflamed from over exercising that the muscle was trying to shut down. My hamstring has been hurting since the beginning of the year but I ignored the pain thinking it was just sore. Unfortunately it got to the point I was in constant pain. Sometimes it hurt so bad I could barely walk. My Orthopedic Dr. said I needed to stop working out for a while and really rest my leg. For someone who is as active as I am, not working out is very hard for me to do, but if I wanted to heal my leg and get back to 100% I had to rest.

For the first two weeks I did not workout except for walking around the park once or twice. After two weeks of rest, I only went to System of Strength’s high and tight classes. I modified everything and did not use the bands. I went to physical therapy to rebuild the muscle that I lost. Eventually as the weeks went on I added a little more to my workouts and my physical therapist added more to my home exercises. I also went to cryotherapy for a freeeeeeezing good time….. so cold.

Now that my physical therapy is over ( I still have one more Dr. appointment), I have been given the OK to start running and fully working out again. Unfortunately not really working out for the past two months changed my body. I am not as strong all over, I get tired quicker during workouts, I gained weight, and my body does not feel as great as it did before. I have to work on rebuilding my muscles. I am, unfortunately, no where near where I used to be and it has been pretty frustrating. I ran a mile two days ago…… honestly a fast walker could beat me in a race I am so slow. But I am happy to be back to exercising. I still have to be cautious on what I do because my leg still gets inflamed if I do too much. One day at a time…

Now that I have been given the green light, I have started to set goals for myself to get my body and my health back on track.

My goals

get back to my goal weight

back to a 3 mile run

continue clean eating

build up to heavy weights again

in 3 weeks be able to do dead lifts with weights again

Start swimming laps and playing tennis

in 3 weeks be able to do a full class with bands

in 3 weeks be able to do a full class with the plyo box

get back into yoga (stretching hurt me as well)

I am excited to start working on my goals and get back to a healthy, active lifestyle! I would love to hear some of your current workout goals?
