“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves”

-Henry David Thoreau

Happy Friday! I am off to Florida for a much needed vacation. I am ready to lounge by the pool, wear dresses, and spend time with my family.

This was a very busy, but fun week! Tuesday even I went to the New York Design Center for an event with Pooky Lighting and Benjamin Moore. The event was held at Pooky Lighting’s showroom. At the event we painted our own lamp shades. Some people winged it, some sketched out their designs, and others used a stencil. I used a stencil of a bird and flowers. You can see the evolution of the painting from my first attempt to the last. The first being a little smudged since I used too much paint, and the last was close to perfect. The event was a lot of fun! I really enjoy events when you have a craft to do. Getting your creativity juices going.

The next evening I went to the Cole Haan office to check out their fall collection. They took me through each monthly fall collection; explaining what is new, what’s being brought back, and what is being reimagined. A new collection on the way is women’s golf attire. They released men’s golf apparel sometime last year and are now going to release women’s. I was also interested in a few pairs of sneakers that look nice; one was white with a little bit of dark magenta on the bottom and a sea green on top. Really loved the colors together. Cole Haan has also brought back archival collections, which have been a big success.

While I was checking out a pair of men’s woven loafers from the archival collection, one of Cole Haan’s employees walked up to me and asked if I had any questions. I told him I was curious about what year each of these vintage items were originally released. I kept saying vintage and old. He said some are pretty old like these (the loafers) are from 2004…. the year I graduated high school. I didn’t say anything, but I was having a mini stroke at calling my senior year of high school old and vintage! haha!

The next day I finally got my hair done! It been looking awful lately and I desperately needed highlights. I go to this cute little salon in the East Village called Tree House Social. I’ve been going to Kara for a few years now; I actually followed her over there from Bumble and Bumble. I enjoy our little talks and catching up on life. And I feel so much better, and more like myself, now that I am blonde again!

Last night I went down to SoHo for the Boden event with ShopMy.  It was a kick-off party to celebrate their “Smitten with Britain” pop-up store on Greene St. They gifted us an outfit to wear and I chose this polka-dot dress. Felt very Pretty Woman. Also comes in this lovely print. The event was lovely and lots of fun!! They have all of their current collections there, pretty florals, and some great photo-ops. It was a lovely event and it was so nice to run into some old friends.

What I am watching: I did not start a new series since I was out almost every night. I did, however, FINALLY watched Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. I am so sad it’s officially over, but I did love the movie. I thought they did a lovely job wrapping everything up. Tying it all in a pretty bow. They also did a great job creating new storylines, while continuing on certain other stories. I may have gotten a little teary-eyed at the end when they were going through the montage of characters from the series.

What I bought: I didn’t buy anything new this week. I bought everything I needed for my trip already and will hold off on buying anything else until I get back. I do still have my eye on this yellow rollneck sweater.

As mentioned I am on my way to Florida. I am not sure what all we are planning on doing. However, I plan to just sit by the pool and read all day. I know we will go out to eat, go to the beach, and enjoy some R&R. Since I am heading on vacation, I will not be posting on my blog. Will see you in 2 weeks!
