It has been a while since I have given a NYC restaurant guide update, don’t worry I am still eating my way through the city. On today’s menu we have great brunch spots and casual dinners to go to with friends. All of which are located in West Village.

Old Rose

I went to Old Rose yesterday for the first time and instantly fell in love upon arriving. How pretty is the decor in this Italian restaurant? Thank goodness I was meeting another blogger (Emily) because my picture taking would of have been considered rude. The menu selection (at least for lunch) is small but everything on it looked so good. It was a last minute decision for me on what I wanted because I wanted to taste test everything. I ended up getting breakfast food (eggs, bacon, and potatoes) while Emily got the fusilli pasta. Also on their menu is pizza, salads, large plates such as chicken, pork, steak, etc. They also have a lot of vegetarian options. Unfortunately not many gluten free options which is why I ended up getting breakfast food for lunch.

The food was amazing (bacon lovers rejoice because it was superb), and they had matcha lattes! Any restaurant that has matcha on the menu already gets a gold star from me. Old Rose is located inside the Jane Hotel. It was quiet enough that you could converse but you didn’t have to whisper. I can not wait to go back and try something else on their menu, maybe go for dinner and drinks.

The Spotted Pig

I have frequent The Spotted Pig many times throughout my time here in New York. It’s a great, casual restaurant to go to with friends. Everyone seems to agree on going there. Located in West Village, this gastropub is best known for their burgers. But they have a lot more on the menu that is equally noteworthy. The sheep’s milk ricotta gnudi, part of their appetizers, is heavenly. And I have to say, as a self proclaimed fries connoisseur, their fries are can’t-stop-eating good! Since I no longer can have their world famous burgers I usually get the snapper with a side of Brussels sprouts. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lively and the decor is eclectic.

Bar Sardine

Go to Bar Sardine when it’s nice out and they have the windows open. You can sit at the counter along side the windows and feel the summer breeze as you eat your meal.  Bar Sardine is great gastropub brunch spot. It’s also a great place for happy hour drinks. The dinner menu looks appetizing as well. If you are going there for brunch make sure to get there early because it does become packed. I believe they do not take reservations, so the early bird gets the worm. It’s a great restaurant to go with a friend for any meal of the day.

Hudson Clearwater

The first time I went to Hudson Clearwater I sat right next to Jake Gyllenhaal’s table (him being catty-corner to my right).  I ate my entire meal facing his way and pretended like we were at dinner together…… only partially joking. I couldn’t stop staring but I played it cool.  Anyway, Hudson Clearwater is a cute little American restaurant in the heart of West Village. They have amazing food that you really can not go wrong with anything on the menu. Hudson Clearwater is a little bit pricer than the restaurants above, but still won’t break the bank. This is a great restaurant for date night, a special occasion with friends, or for when your parents are in town. Since Hudson Clearwater is a small restaurant I will suggest making a reservation as it does get busy as night.
