easter dresses

It’s hard to believe Easter is next week when there is a snowstorm currently happening in New York. Nevertheless a little cold weather will not stop me from wearing a spring dress on Easter day. It’s the first of the season to wear florals and pastel  colored dresses.

Growing up my grandmother used to make our Easter dresses. It’s truly one of my favorite memories from childhood. A month before Easter she would take my sister and me to the fabric store so we can pick out a print we liked. Usually highly suggested by my grandmother on which one was the best. While one picks out her fabric of choice the other is scrolling through a book of silhouettes and styles to choose from. I guess this is really my first spark in loving fashion. Anyway, after we have chosen our fabric and silhouette style the next month consists of fittings. I was always so scared of being scratched by the needles. The finally fitting day I was always amazed and in awe of my grandmother for creating it. Like she was a magician of some sort. We’d wear our dresses to church and my grandmother would proudly show us off– eh more like show off her creation. Since this was the 80’s and early 90’s, we accessorized our outfit with white gloves, straw hats, and big hair. Ah the good old days. I am not quite sure when or even why we stopped having her design our dresses, probably right before middle school, but finding a dress for Easter still holds the same joy as it once did.

When choosing a dress for the hip-hoppity holiday, I look for silhouettes that are spring-like, elevated casual, and of course appropriate for church and family dinner. I mean I am sitting in front of God and my grandmother, I do not want to burn in flames upon entering church. Right now I have this long sleeve eyelet dress from J.Crew and this flutter sleeved one from The Loft I am considering between. I really love this floral dress from Rebecca Taylor as well as this sleeveless floral one from Club Monaco. I will probably end up getting both of them just to have. Spring and summer dresses are my favorite, so it’s really hard to say no to any of them.

Since the last time my grandmother made my Easter dress the allure of choosing has never left me. I still get excited about what I am going to wear, what type of fabric, print, and silhouette. I have gathered a ton of dresses that I think would be perfect for the bunny-filled holiday.
