There isn’t a workout challenge I wouldn’t take…. well, for the most part. So when my friend Ashley, from the blog Impossibly Imperfect, approached me with the idea to join her for Body Conceptions winter challenge I was 100% in. I didn’t need to ask questions or really ask what Body Conceptions was. I just knew it was a workout challenge and I was ready to go. I know, I am a freak.

For a little background, Body Conceptions is owned by Mahri Relin– a former top trainer at Tracy Anderson’s. BoCo is a body sculpting and cardio training program that creates long lean muscles of a dancer.  As a former dancer myself I really gravitate towards these types of programs because I know the instructors understand my body and how it functions and moves, and can relate to my post-old woman-dancer body. Sigh.

I have taken Tracy Anderson Method, and also Body by Simone (another former TA trainer), before so I had an idea of what I was getting myself into. The challenge is 6 weeks and I can attend any class I want– they have classic, power 45, sculpt, and blast. They also offer private sessions and all of the instructors are certified in pre- and postnatal training.

The first day I got my before picture and measurements taken. Then each Monday I get measured to track my progress. This can be pretty nerve-racking. What if I gained inches? What if I haven’t lost anything and stay the same? Those are the questions that run through my head. As someone who loves to workout, and works out 5-6 days a week, I wasn’t sure if I would lose any inches. I doubted it would work. To be honest I have gained a little bit of weight since moving back to New York and it seemed nothing was working to get back the body I had before. My body needs high intensity workouts…. unfortunately. I love pilates and yoga and will continue to do them, but I need more of HIIT in my life. I took a few months off from HIIT because I wanted to see if a less intense workout would work on my body and to give my injured hamstring a longer break. So when I was approached to do this challenge I made a packed with myself to be completely 100% in. This means taking a BoCo class 6 days a week. Yikes!

Body Conceptions really works! In two weeks I have lost 2 inches around my waist, an inch around my arm, half an inch around my hips, and nothing around my thighs. My thighs are a powerhouse, pure muscle (except for my upper thighs, which they do not measure), so I know I won’t lose that much there. Anyway, I am so so soooo happy with my results and seeing my hard work pay off so fast! I am excited to see my final results and how far I have come. But even if I do not lose that much more, I am still proud of myself for committing to it and going for it.

Body Conceptions is not an easy workout. As a trained dancer and a fitness devotee, I thought dance cardio and using light weights would be pretty easy. I was wrong. It is intense and I am so sore my friends…. so sore. Luckily with the challenge BoCo provides lots of perks. I can work with a masseuse, chiropractor, nutritionist, and physical therapist. What I love about BoCo is that they understand the importance of taking care of your body, and not just being physically fit. With this intense training you can be prone for injury if you do not take care of your body–this is true for any type of workout. You need to stretch, buy yourself a foam roller, eat healthy whole meals, icing your body, getting enough sleep at night, and drink lots of water. I haven’t really changed my eating habits since starting the challenge. I am already a healthy, semi strict, eater but have notice I am eating a lot more.

The instructors at BoCo are all trained dancers, which I really like. They are all so very uplifting and encouraging during class. The energy from the second you walk in the room is so positive. There isn’t any pressure– if I need a water break, I need a water break. If I can no longer jump and can only flare my arms around like I did this past Monday night, at least I am moving. What is important is that I get back in the workout and continue.

I have three more weeks of the challenge and will keep you updated on my progress throughout! Please ask me any questions you have on Body Conceptions or the type of workouts I do!
