For Christmas and New Year’s wear something different than the traditional holiday dress. A metallic blouse can be a festive alternative that still holds the traditional glitz of the season. A revival of 70’s glam, metallic is a great way to shine bright during the holidays.
Today I am flying home to Columbus for a week to celebrate Christmas with my family! There is no where else in the world I rather be to celebrate the holiday. It takes me back to being in a kid and just feeling over the moon excited for Santa and to spend time with my family. As many families do, we have a few special holiday traditions that we partake in each year. Some I will long for when I am much older, some have only developed in my teenage years, and some I will continue on with my children. And some traditions died hard– like the year my entire family made an album where we all sang our favorite Christmas songs. We named it Down Home Family Christmas. We gifted the CD to my grandmother who now plays it ever year during our Christmas dinner…….. whhhhyyyy! My mom and my aunts want to make another album……. I did not sign up to be a part of the Partiridge family. It was a hard no from everyone. Another tradition that died hard: the talking stick. My aunt decided to buy a toy microphone so whoever had the mic during dinner was allowed to talk (we are a family of talkers). Of course that meant my aunt didn’t share the mic, but we still talked over her. The stick mysteriously disappeared after that evening. My favorite traditions, however, are filled with fun, sentiment, and a good old family competition.
My favorite part about the holiday season is the chance to get a little bit more dressed up than usual. I love nothing more than to put on a fancy dress and head to a formal event. It makes me feel elegant! This holiday season instead of wearing the traditional red or sequined dress, try wearing something a little different but still festive to the cocktail party. A dress you can continue to wear past the holiday season to various occasions.
For this holiday season I knew I wanted to wear a velvet dress to one of my more festive soirées. Velvet is very on trend right now and it is a fabric I have not yet incorporated into my wardrobe. I figured this season was the perfect opportunity to try out the trend. When I stumbled upon this velvet dress with a flounce hem from Rebecca Minkoff while shopping online, I thought it was too pretty to pass up. The color on the website says purple (which is one of my least favorite colors), but I would say it is more of a mauve color. This is a classic and simple dress with a little flare that will stand out in the sea of traditional sequined dresses this holiday season.
Every year my entire family gets together for a holiday feast on Christmas day. But before we dive into the delicious food we have our annual holiday wrapping competition. Each year we pick out of a bowl who we are getting a gift for. This year I have my cousin Hannah….. last time I had her I put maple syrup all over the package. Before you start to think it was a mean prank let me explain. (more…)
