“How rare and beautiful it is to even exist”
Happy Friday! From attending an event to immersing myself in dance, it’s been a week of socializing and artistry.
After two wonderful days off where I slept, caught up on Real Housewives, read, and more, I went uptown to an event with Buru. An elegant evening at Café Carlyle, we celebrated Morgan Hutchinson, founder of Buru, book launch. In her first published book, Bipolar Blonde, Morgan tells vulnerable truths about learning to navigate her life after being diagnosed with bipolar at the age of 27. I have known Morgan personally for a few years now, and she truly is a wonderful person. I have always admire her passion for the fashion industry and creating garments that reminds us that dressing up is fun, and for her ambition into creating Buru as it is today. I can’t wait to read this!
The event at the Carlyle was wonderful! I got to see some old friends whom I haven’t seen in a while. While also meeting and mingling with new people. I haven’t been to an event in a while- usually events are not done during the summer. It felt amazing to be back in the content creation world, toasting champagne to an incredible woman, and laughing with friends. I wore this gorgeous, and fun, green tweed set that Buru sent me. It feels very 60s chic!
Last night I volunteered as an usher at The Joyce Theater for the Limón Dance Company performance. José Limón is one of the pioneers of modern dance. Since 1946 the company has been a prominent institution in the art form. For their annual performances at The Joyce Theater, the company showcased two pieces. The first being José Limón’s own creative work, Mazurkas, from 1958. The piece was inspired by his travels to Poland after WWII. The strength and vitality from the people. Set to 10 of Chopin’s Mazurkas, this is the first time since 1964 it has been performed in its entirety. It was very cool to witness something so precious and historic in the dance world. My interpretation of the performance was a community coming together. Lovers walking at night. Friends greeting each other. It was lovely to see.
I hate to say this, but I left after intermission when my volunteer duties were over. This is something I NEVER do. However, it was the perfect storm; had too much work to do and wasn’t feeling too well. I wanted to go home, finish what I can with work, and go to bed early so I could be present at work today. I hate that I missed out on the second performance. I have never walked out of a performance before, and hopefully never will again. I find it rude and unappreciative. But, as it goes, life happens.
The rest of my week I worked at Tuckernuck, worked on my blog, and tried to get a little reading in. I had two days off -Sunday and Monday- and it was heaven. I slept most of the day on Sunday, as I was exhausted and clearly needed rest. Monday I spent getting things domestic done before I went uptown to the event.
What I am watching: I started East of Eden on Netflix starring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, and Mike Feist. I, shamefully, have to admit I have never read the book. I am going into this unaware of the characters and the story.line I have heard some negative reviews stating that it’s not the same as the book. I, obviously, can’t be the judge of that. Still, I am excited to finally know this classic. I have been making it a mission this past year to read classic books that I haven’t read yet (will eventually read this one). Anyway, I find the show interesting and think all three of the actors are amazing in it!
While I was having a lazy Sunday I decided to put on a silly show where I didn’t have to think. I decided on Coven Academy on Hulu starring Tiffany Amber Thiessen, Devon Sawa, and some up and coming actors who play the teenagers. The show is about a teenage girl Briar, who recently lost her mother and found out that she is a witch. She is sent to the Coven Academy in which her mother attended. There she finds her coven, and some dangerous vampires. It may be a show for teenagers, but I am captivated. I can’t wait until season 2!
What I bought: I finally, FINALLY have my bank account back! I have been dealing with some serious fraud over the past two weeks, and didn’t have access to my bank account. Since I have finally gotten it back I did a little retail therapy. I finally bought this plaid barn jacket that I have been eyeing since last fall. It’s both a classic and modern piece. It has arrived, but I have yet to try it on. I sized down and bought an XS. However, something tells me this is very oversized and will probably exchange it for an XXS.
