Another season has come and gone, and in it I read a few pleasureable books. From memoirs of legends to love stories of fate, September’s reading was filled with laughter, unexpected plot twists, and moments of romantic gestures. This is everything I read in September.

When Larissa had to choose between Mike and Chris for a ride home, she didn’t realize she met the love of her life. Becoming great friends, co-parenting a dog together, and having lots in common when it comes to books, bread choices, and more. The only problem? She chose the wrong guy to go home with and ends up dating the best friend. Now the one Larissa should be with has to stand on the sidelines even if it kills him. He only cares for Larissa’s happiness, and to save his friendship with his best friend.

(Spoilers!!) I devoured this book! I really love dueling perspectives; his and hers point of view. And when the story is a slow burn, knowing how each of them feel makes it that much more exciting when they finally come together. I do have to say I had to revisit the first book of the series to remember the characters. I only remembered Xavier and Sam- I guess I didn’t pay that much attention to their friends. I do not remember Mike being a drunk or being that immature. I was surprised at how far things went into making Mike a bad guy, but there had to be something to eventually break him and Larissa up. I absolutely loved Chris, he felt like the perfect leading man; kind, thoughtful. protective, loving. He never judged Larissa, always supported her, and was always there for her. It’s an overall feel good book that was enjoyable to read. I am excited to for the next book installment of the series and WHO we are going to follow.

Emery has a major secret that a NDA will not allow her to tell anyone, not even her husband Luca. However, the double-life she has been living is starting to take a toll on their marriage. She is never home, always forgetful of plans, and puts her work priorities first. With this top secret job she has, she really shouldn’t have a life outside the lab. But she loves Luca so much she will do anything to repair the relationship. When a tragic accident happens to Luca, Emery breaks every protocol and brings him back to life. Now not only does Emery have to keep Luca’s accident, and her involvement, a secret, she also has to deal with his amnesia. He doesn’t remember who he is, anything in his life, and tragically, being married to Emery. Now that Emery has a second chance at a life with Luca, she is not going to waste it. Even if this means risking her life’s work for him.

There were some parts I was captivated by and some parts I felt the story flatlined. Moved slowly. I felt some of his recovery, the ins-and-outs of his day, was a little redundant. Overall, however, I really liked the book. It’s different; a romance and a mystery all wrapped into one. I loved the twists and turns; especially towards the end. I enjoyed watching Luca and Emery rekindled their relationship. Making me believe in fate; that things are meant to be.

Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!
It’s Liza Minnelli in her owns words, enough said. This memoir was one of the best I have ever read… well listened to on audio. Liza herself, with the famous cadence of her voice and vaudeville background music, gives us an insight into her life. From being Judy Garland’s daughter to sleeping on a park bench in Central Park to still performing today, Liza does not hold back the truth. And some of the truths made my jaw drop. I was enthralled by every aspect of her life. She truly has lived an extraordinary one. I wouldn’t say I had a favorite chapter of her life, but her time during Cabaret would take the cake if I had to choose. As it is one of my favorite broadway shows I have ever seen. My gateway into Bob Fosse and love of show tunes. Anyway, I have no notes on this memoir. It was well written; I felt connected to the narrative as if she was telling the story to me. Whether you are a musical theater enthusiasts or lived through the same time period as Liza or just like to know celebrity gossip, this book is for you!
