In just a few shorts weeks we will be celebrating the 250th birthday of America! As usual I will be heading home, because no one does the 4th quite like Upper Arlington, Ohio. It’s filled with day long festivities, traditions, and picnic hopping. But before we celebrate the stars- spangled banner, we must find something red, white, and blue to wear.
Where I come from we usually dress casual to nice on the 4th; dresses, skirts, nice blouses. However, jean shorts and a cute tank are not few and far in-between. For me, I like to dress up. To wear something cute and flowy; an outfit that can beat the heart while still looking stylish. This blue floral smocked midi dress is right up my alley. A dress I would buy this year for the 4th, however, I already own it in two other colors…. what can I say, I like what I like.
If you are looking for something more casual to wear for the 4th, this blue linen mini dress (also comes in navy) is perfect to throw on for the entire day. A dress you can wear these gold strappy sandals with, as well as sneakers or heeled sandals. This white smocked mini dress is another outfit to throw on and go, while still looking put together. I adore the delicate ruffle neckline, as well as the front tie. A dress you will reach for day after day, well past the holiday.
For something a little more elevated, but not quite fancy, pair this blue ruched-waist tank top (comes in red as well and under $100) with this pretty white embroidered skirt– the scalloped hem really makes the skirt. You can tuck the tank top into the skirt or leave it out to showcase the more of the ruching. Switch out the tank top for this chic red one-shoulder top for a more elevated look for the evening. Personally I am eyeing it in the white to wear for nights out and date nights.
A different approach to dressing this year, an in-vogue look if you will, is wearing this strapless embroidered top with its matching embroidered pants. The top is lined, but the pants are sheer. However, the bodice is long enough to cover your undergarments. Together they look chic, playful, and trendy. If the pants are not your cup of tea, the top would look great with silk pants, jeans, or these white linen pants.
Another eccentric and whimsical outfit to wear is this red and blue floral embroidered dress. While the patterns are floral, the embellishements look more like fireworks to me. This is a dress you don’t really need to accessorize (that much), since it speaks for itself. However, the more the merrier, and the 4th is a day for merrymaking. Pair the dress with this blue oversized beaded necklace (under $100) to bring forth the hue.
For a more fanciful evening, wear this red and white striped midi dress. It’s a feminine silhouette that gives an effortlessly elegant look. Gussy it up a little bit more by pairing it with these sculpted gold and pearl drop earrings. Shop more 4th of July outfit ideas below, and shop for even more in my curated edit here.
