“What feels like a delay may actually be divine alignment in disguise”
-Vex King
Happy Friday! I am preparing for this massive winter storm that is about to hit New York. I have stocked up on groceries and books, and have charged all of my electronics. I do not mind being snowed in for a few days, I just hope the power stays on. I did not have power during Hurricane Sandy and I do not wish to be in that position again. Hopefully it isn’t as bad as they are saying. However, it’s always better to be prepared.
Besides the looming snow storm on the horizon, my week was filled with meetings and music. Mostest had their monthly all departments meeting to touch base on the new platform. As always you can request me to create content (photos and videos) for your event, or you can directly email me- without having to use a planner, etc. The other meeting I attended on zoom was a panel discussion hosted by Mestiza. The panel consisted of the founders of Mestiza Alessandra Perez-Rubio and Louisa Rechter, Lauren Dudley-Stephens co-founder of Dudley Stephens, Alexandra Dillard VP Merchandise Manger at Dillard’s, and Jennifer Hunter founder of Jennifer Hunter Designs. It was an inspiring and educational discussion on entrepreneurship. I enjoyed hearing each individual stories on how they got started, the bumps in the road to success, and what they discovered worked well. I believe Mestiza is going to have more zoom panel discussions in the future so stay tuned!
I finally saw the famous opera Madama Butterfly. This is the second opera I have ever seen; the last being Eugene Onegin which I saw about 12 years ago. I really enjoyed the opera. I am not going to pretend I can fully follow what is going on on-stage, it’s still a foreign form of art to me. Unlike the ballet which I understand every move, every gesture. Movement is a language I understand, opera music is not right now. I understand the synopsis, it is the conversations in-between. However, the more I go, the more I will understand. And I plan on going to it more often.
Madama Butterfly was beautiful! I was surprised by the very little production set for such a famous opera. However, what they did was clever. My favorite part was when Pinkerton and Butterfly are in the garden after their marriage ceremony. They were both dressed in white with a spotlight on them. The rest of the stage was dark, expect for the background performers who were in all black carrying round paper lanterns. At one point a floral string backdrop gently descended, while rose petals cascaded from the ceiling. It was magical! My favorite song (and seems to be the most famous) was in Act II when Butterfly sings “Un bel di vedremo”. It was lovely! The performers were all incredible, and the costumes were gorgeous. It was a wonderful evening at the opera!
What I am watching: Tell Me Lies season 3 is back and I question my sanity as to why I even watch this show. I dislike every character- except for maybe Wrigley. I don’t condone violence but I also wouldn’t hate it if one of them unalives Stephen at some point. He is the most bone chilling, sinister character. However, I love the early 2000’s nostalgia.
I have finally gotten around to starting season 2 of Palm Royale. This show is so wonderfully silly. And the costumes are impeccable! I need every item Kristin Wiig wears. Not sure how it is all going to end, but I need Maxine to rule Palm Beach. She deserves it!
Lastly I watched the movie Materialists starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans. I enjoyed it! However, it made me feel both depressed and romanticized. Depressed because of the dating scenes and how men in their 40s are trying to only date women in their 20s. Also how we only search partners of a certain look or status instead of for love. However, it does make me hopeful for things to workout in the end. That we always end up finding our person.
What I bought: The only thing I bought this week was a restock of my favorite eye cream. It’s advanced night repair gel cream that reduces fine lines and brightens dark circles. Since using I have seen some improvement in my dark circles.
