“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.

We have the power to imagine better.”

-J.K Rowling

Happy Friday!! IT’S MOVING DAY!! I am all packed up and ready for the next chapter in my life. It’s a little sad to leave my current home of 3 years, but boy am I ready for a new start! This is going to be my home until one of three things happen: 1) I move in with my boyfriend 2) I make even more money and can afford a much nicer place or 3) I leave New York. I am hoping 1 or 2 is the reason within the next year or two. Anyway, it’s better to enjoy my new chapter while it lasts!

My entire week was centered around packing. I really tried to not schedule any events this past week so I can have all of the time in the world to pack. I didn’t want to rush anything and feel overwhelmed. I took it day by day, packing what I could for the day whether it was two boxes or one or throwing things out. I didn’t want to feel rushed into getting things done so I can go here or there for an hour or two. The only work-related event that I did attend this past week was stopping by the new Draper James section at The Market in Macy’s Herald Square. It’s a small section with accessories, clothing, and handbags. It’s only there until November 3rd, so definitely hurry up and go to it!

Sunday night I went to the Big Apple Circus for the first time. It was their opening night and I was invited as a VIP guest. I got to hang out in the VIP tent prior to the show, which was filled with an open bar/ snacks,  a few circus acts like jugglers and aerialists, and some celebrities! The show was highly entertaining! I had the best time watching all of the circus acts like the tight-rope and my absolute favorite, the trapeze. Apparently the circus is no longer allowed to have certain types of animals, which makes sense, but I was hoping to see elephants, lions, and tigers (oh my!). They did have horses, my favorite animal, which I loved; the guy would do backflips while riding them. They also had cats doing tricks. I am not a cat person at all but enjoyed seeing these little furry animals jump through hoops. Anyway, Neil Patrick Harris was the ringmaster for the evening and he did a fantastic job– no surprise there. You could tell he was having a blast! After the show a few of us were invited to the after-party with the performers in the ring. I didn’t stay long for it because I was tired from the Halloween party the previous night and I wanted to get home and go to bed. But I had an absolute wonderful time at the circus and would go again!

It surprised me how many people have never been to the circus before. All of my friends who were there have never been, and a few other people I have spoken to have said they have never been. In Kindergarten we went on a field trip to the circus that was in town, and then my parents took my sister and me. Of course it was not the same caliber as the Big Apple Circus, at least from what I remember. The Big Apple Circus felt more like a performance/ Broadway show with singing and comedy bits in-between setting up the acts. Maybe all circuses are that way now, who knows, but I remember the one that I went to so many years ago was more of a peanut and Cracker Jack, traditional fair circus. Maybe I am wrong. Anyway, I am still surprised to hear so many people have never been before! It’s a must-see!

Other than the circus not much else went on. I did finish reading City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert. The author of Eat, Pray, Love. I really enjoyed this book but it is a little long and overall feels like you read 4 different stories. It’s about a woman named Vivian who is writing a letter to another woman named Angela explaining her life in NYC from the 40’s to the 70’s. It mostly centers around a theatre named the Lily Playhouse and the showgirls who performed at the theatre in Manhattan. It’s intriguing, shocking, sad and happy. I’ll get more into details in another post, but if you are looking for a good book to read I highly suggest this one!

My mom is in town this weekend helping me move/unpack. We are not going to be doing anything fun or going anywhere except to Bed Bath and Beyond and Pottery Barn. If we do have the time we may go see a movie, but I am guessing our days and evenings will be filled with putting my apartment together.

Have a wonderful weekend xo
