Being in New York for over 7 years I still get moments of surrealism when I think “my God I live here!”. I hope this feeling never goes away. It doesn’t happen every day, I go from work to the gym to back home like a normal person. But once a week something catches my eye or happens to me and it transforms me into gratefulness. One thing that makes me feel such abundance is the Empire State Building. I see it almost every day and yet I still love the sight of that tall building. It is the quintessential New York image. I even have an illustration of the building framed in my room that I purchased from Crate and Barrel (sold out now) about 6 years ago.

I believe my romantic views of the Empire State Building stem from the movie Sleepless in Seattle. As one of my favorite movies of all time, the Empire State Building plays a major key role in the film. It became a fantasy of love and fate for me. Now I view it as a symbol of gratitude that my life and God have brought me to this amazing city that I love so much. And as a significant structure that represents my life here in New York, I have always dreamed of doing a photoshoot on the observation deck.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the grand opening of the new observation deck on the 102 floor of the Empire State Building. Not only was this an amazing experience to have, watching the sunrise over Manhattan, it also gave me the perfect opportunity to fulfill my dream of shooting up high above the city. Knowing going into the photoshoot that it will most likely be very windy, I took the opportunity to wear my new polka dot dress from Rixo. I knew the wind would pick up my dress and give me some drama and romance, just like my favorite movie. The Empire State Building will always be an inspiration, a symbol of love, and a feeling of gratitude for a starry-eyed woman who is trying to make it in the big apple.
