drugstore skincare

When it comes to everyday beauty and skincare sometimes what you are looking for isn’t the overly priced products. Sometimes the best product for you and for your skin is sold at your local drugstore, Target or Walmart. Last year when I got Perioral Dermatitis I stopped using all of my products and went straight to CVS to pick up Cetaphil per my Dermatologist orders. She was right, it was the only brand that did not spread the rash or irritate it. I still use Cetaphil as my daily moisturizer, along with the soap. I love that the daily moisturizer has SPF in it but it is not overly thick that I can tell I have it on. It is important to me to have SPF in my face lotion and will only use ones that do.

Since having PD I have been extra careful about what I put on my face. Another brand that never irritates my skin is Aveeno. I have tested a good amount of different makeup remover wipes and they all leave a stinging feeling that is not pleasant. Aveeno’s ultra-calming wipes are the only ones I can use. It not only works beautifully in removing my makeup, but makes my skin feel moisturized afterwards instead of dried out. I also use Aveeno’s body lotion, but mostly at night. A beauty product I have been using for years is L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Extra- Volume Collagen Mascara. I already have long eye lashes but they are a little light (blonde problems), so when I wear mascara I make sure it is black to darken them. Other mascara’s that I have tried I usually like and will use if gifted to me, but will always go back to L’Oreal. Speaking of gifted items that I love, Aveda was kind enough to send me their cherry almond shampoo and conditioner a few months ago and fell in love with it. It left my hair feeling so soft and light. I actually have a lot of hair (surprising I know) but it is very fine, so some products can be a little heavy on my hair or make my hair feel greasy.  Aveda’s shampoo and conditioner was the total opposite, I went back out and bought new bottles after using the first set.

A brand that I love but is a little pricer on this list (still under $100) is Kiehl’s. I use their Midnight Recovery Eye every night, praying it will stop pre-mature wrinkles. I also use their Midnight Recovery serum, but only in the winter. I stay away from serums in the summer as my face gets a little oiler. At night I will use their vitamin C solution right before putting on my moisturizer. I make sure to only use Vitamin C at night, as it easily attracts the sun during the day causing sunspots. To be honest I only use it once a week because I am scared about over-doing products and having PD again. I usually stick to the basics of skincare, but when I do use Kiehl’s products I love the way they feel on my skin and the results I have seen.

There are so many products that are great for your skin where you do not have to break the bank. I have sensitive, combination skin and I found that these products work the best for me during certain seasons. I also use BeautyCounter as well, but unfortunately you can not get it at your local drugstore.
