It’s been a few months since I have posted a NYC restaurant guide. I think it is a blessing and a curse that the city has so many options. I love to try new restaurants that either I discover through social media, my friends rave about, or I saw it on a website like Eater. But then again there are so many restaurants that when someone ask me recommendations or someone comes to town to visit, I panic a little on which restaurant to choose. Even though I have been here for over 6 years I still Google best brunch spots or great date night spots, etc. So here are a few restaurant picks that I enjoy and feel you will too.

Industry Kitchen

Years after Hurricane Sandy, the South Street Seaport is starting to feel like its old self again. Many stores have opened, there is a movie theater there now, as well as some great restaurants. Industry Kitchen is one of the must-go-to restaurants by the seaport. I have only been there for brunch, but am definitely planning on going back in the summer for dinner. They have a pretty big outdoor seating area (inside is big as well) that faces the water. What a perfect summer night! The brunch food was good and so was the mimosas. This is a great place to go with friends.

The Mermaid Inn

No matter what you order on this menu it is going to be good. A great place to go to with friends or a casual date. The Mermaid Inn is in three locations– UWS and East Village, and a sister bar, Oyster Bar, in Greenwich. I usually get the salmon, because that is always my top choice at every restaurant, but the fries and Brussels sprouts are amazing. I have only been to the one in East Village, so can’t speak to the ambiance of the other restaurants. The East Village one has a back patio that is perfect for summer time. The vibe is pretty lively. I’d say it’s not the biggest restaurant, but a standard NYC scene. The food is worth it though.

China Blue

Tucked in the heart of Tribeca, China Blue is a great place to stop and have a few drinks for happy hour or stay and have dinner with friends or family. The decor is super cute (Instagram worthy cute) with bookshelves and Oriental detailing. After reading a little about the restaurant, I found that the decor is to resemble Shanghai in the ’30s. The food was great as well as  traditional fine Chinese cuisine.  Although I could not have it, I do hear the dim sum is excellent.

Freds at Barneys

Take a break from shopping at Freds at Barneys. From pastas to pizzas to salads to brunch, it’s a great place to dine. Most of the time I am in there working and will grab a cup of tea or lunch. Or meet a friend for a drink at the bar. The food is yummy and who wouldn’t want to eat right next to a bunch of high-end clothing. It’s the best of both worlds, my dreams come true– food and fashion together. The decor is cute and comfy with cushioned grayish-blue seats. This place is definitely worth going to…. I mean how often can you say you had brunch at Barneys.
