makeup

When Instagram released their newest polling feature one of the questions I asked you, my readers, is what would you like to see more of on the blog. A few of you said makeup. When it comes to makeup I am pretty minimal, I like the au naturel look. For years the only makeup I would wear is mascara and concealer. Now I have adventured on to more products to create my going out look. Growing up I was a dancer where our stage presence consisted of bright colors and caked on makeup. Most of my life I equated daily makeup with stage makeup. Even if I had a little bit of blush on I felt like I was about to perform. As years past I have become more comfortable wearing makeup out and about. I still prefer the minimalist look and always will, but sometimes it’s nice to have a pop of color whether it is a pink blush tone or a red lip. Also through the years as I have adventure in the makeup world and have attended a few tutorials, I have started to narrow down  “my look” and what products to use to create this look. Here are my favorite, go-to products I am currently using.

bareMinerals original foundation broad spectrum SPF 15 : Was never much of a powder girl until I started using this foundation. It covers my facial imperfections like no other foundation has. I only use it when I am going to events or taking blog photos and want to even my skin. It’s truly amazing. It does not feel caked on and blends nicely with my skin tone. I only dab my brush into the powder, hit it a few times on the edge to get some access off, and then apply a minimal amount on my clean face. I also love that it has SPF, anything that comes with SPF already receives a high mark from me. For reference I use the light beige 09.

Beautycounter powder blush duo: There are two different types of blushes that I use, this Beautycounter one and Chanel. Both are in shades of pink but give me a different look. This blush duo I use when I want a little color on my cheeks but nothing that is noticeable.

Beautycounter tint skin hydrating foundation: Another foundation I use when I am not taking photos or going to events. I use this Beautycounter foundation daily (if I am doing something more than just running errands). I only use a small amount and apply it to my face or sometimes directly on a problem area, and under my eyes. It blends nicely with my face and does not leave a sticky feel as some liquid foundations do. Beautycounter is a clean, chemical free company which I prefer to use for daily applications.

Chanel rouge allure velvet matte lipstick: Chanel is my go-to for lipstick. I believe I currently have about 7 different shades mostly in nudes, pinks, and reds. My everyday lipstick color is called BOY and my going out matte lipstick is La Cáline– which I just found out is discontinued, so I am in a mourning period right now. I first starting buying Chanel lipstick because I thought it was chic and sophisticated to apply Chanel on my lips. Then I realize that I really was gravitating towards their palettes and find them to be the prettiest.

Benefits Cosmetics gimme brow + volumizing eyebrow gel: To be honest I would never of have bought eyebrow gel for myself. When coming of the age to really explore makeup I was in the pluck all of your eyebrow hairs off trend period. Sp penciling in my eyebrows was not really a thing. Luckily for society thin eyebrows are no longer a thing, it’s all about thicker brows. I was given this eyebrow gel in a gift bag and decided to one day play with it to see how I would look. Thank goodness I did because I am obsessed with the product and have incorporated it into my makeup routine. I love how thick it makes my brows and really gives a finishing touch my look. With having blonde hair my eyebrows are a little light, when taking pictures they do not show up as nicely as they do when I darken them.

glo Minerals smoky eye kit: I never use eyeshadow daily or even for regular events. I only wear eyeshadow if I am attending a wedding, black tie or cocktail event, or when I am taking pictures without my sunglasses (which is rare). What I love about this smoky eye kit is that the palette is natural looking. No I do not give myself a smoky eye, I honestly wouldn’t even know how to, but I do wear dark and light browns and use a pale color to accentuate the corners of my eyes.

Tom Ford Boys & Girls lip color matte lipstick: When I am feeling a red lip I wear Tom Ford’s dylan lipstick. I have been through so many different reds looking for the perfect shade for my complexion and hair color. The dylan has been the best color I have found so far (seen here).

bareMinerals BAREPRO® 16-HR full coverage concealer: This concealer is my favorite! I use it to spot treat, for under eye bags, and for the redness on the sides of my nose during the cold season. I then blend it in with the beautyblender. I use this coverage concealer after I have applied foundation. I don’t know if that is the right way to do it, but it works for me. For reference I use the fair/light warm 02 color.

L’Oreal Paris voluminous extra-volume collagen mascara: When it comes to everyday makeup I only put on mascara daily. It’s the only product I would take on a desert island with me. This is why I do not spend that much on mascara as I go through it quicker than anything else. Although I use other brands, I always gravitate back to L’Oreal extra-volume mascara. I have long lashes to begin with but I feel this mascara really lifts up my eyelashes and makes them darker.

Luxie face complexion set: Do I know what all of these brushes are for? No. Do I use all of them? Also no. But I find them to be cute with the pink handle and gold accent. I mostly use the bigger one for blush and the smaller one for eyeshadow. The rest is there to look pretty.

Chanel joules contraste powder blush: Another blush that I religiously use. When I want something to pop I wear this Chanel rose initial (72) color. It’s definitely pink that is noticeable, but works well with my complexion. I love that it shows color. Since I have A LOT of freckles on my face, especially around my cheekbones and nose, sometimes blushes can darken the skin in the area. I like to lighten it with a color. I wear this blush color to events and out at night.

beautyblender beauty.blusher cheeky: Another beauty tool I would have never have bought myself but was given one in a gift bag. At first I didn’t use it because I thought blenders were for contouring and highlighting. It wasn’t until I saw at a makeup tutorial that I learned it can also be used to blend in your concealer. It does a wonderful job blending makeup into my skin evenly. It’s a must have beauty tool you need.
