Last year I was terrible at pleasure reading. At the end of the year when I realized the lack of books I read, I was a little upset with myself. I love to read; dive deep into a really great book that you just can’t put down. I missed that. Yes I read a few books, but not as much as I would of have liked. This year I want to get back into the routine of reading book after book. I just finished Sister’s First by the Bush twins. I absolutely loved it! It was interesting to learn about their life throughout both their fathers and grandfather’s term as President, as well as their close bond as twins. It was hilarious and fascinating. I loved it!

There are a few books I have on my reading list. Most of the genres I gravitate towards are YA and self-help. Sometimes I’ll pick an autobiography, historical, or mystery, but usually it’s the former. Here are a few on my current list.

a wrinkle in time

Yes I know A Winkle In Time is for kids, but I have never read it. I know, I know, I can’t believe I haven’t either. Since it is now a movie I wanted to read it before seeing it in theaters. The book is always better than the movie anyhow. I am in the middle of the book and love it. I see why it has stand the test of time as one of the greatest books. Meg Murray and her brother Charles Wallace go on an adventure along with some strange friends to find their father. Their father, a scientist,  disappeared and they are set out to find him and bring him home. This is a science fiction book playing with the idea of time travel and space. I highly highly recommend reading. It’s enjoyable, one that I can’t put down.

maybe in another life

I am a sucker for new age romance.. Maybe in Another Life is about the decision Hannah Martin has to make when she runs into an old flame Ethan at a bar. Ethan offers to drive Hannah home but she is not sure what to do. The book plays out her two choices: a life with Ethan getting back together, and a life where he remains as an ex-boyfriend. It’s about fate, love, and how our life is made up of the choices we make. I have not read this book yet but am intrigued to find out which choice Hannah makes. It may just be a YA book but I really think it will make you question about whether life is a coincidence or is it fate.

Emily Giffin

I am a major fan of Emily Giffin and have read all of her books. All we ever wanted is about Nina Browning, a woman who lives a privileged life with a wonderful husband and son. But Nina is questioning if she is living as her true self. Tom Volpe is working multiple jobs when his daughter Lyla gets into a prestigious private school. After a drunken photograph taken at a party has gone viral, Nina and Tom’s life intertwine. It’s about friendship and finding the true meaning of life. All we ever wanted is not released until June 26th– so put it on your radar!

the subtle art of not giving a fuck

A self help book that is raw, honest, and unlike any other. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck disputes the age old thought process that positive thinking will result in a happier, successful life. Manson tells it like it is– that life can be difficult and we are not all winners. It’s about accepting ourselves– flaws and limitations. It makes us realize who we truly are and what we truly need. It debunks all of my current beliefs and study in the quantum mechanics of our mind, so I am very interested into what Manson has to say. It’s new way of thinking. If you are into this sort of stuff, I think this book will be of interest to you. I have yet to read it, but I have a feeling I am either going to eat it up or get mad at it’s lack of positivity.
