Last week I posted about day one of my trip to Georgetown (found here). The second day was more about exploring and walking, walking, and some more walking. Instead of exploring more of Georgetown, we headed towards the White House and other historical monuments. While we were looking at the White House, all of a sudden the police started yelling for us to move–and in a hurry. Well come to find out some man had a gun, or perhaps something that looked like a gun. At the time we did not know what was going on, but it was still scary… and exciting. To be honest at first my mom and I felt a little panicky, but then we thought maybe someone important was coming/going, so we stuck around (on the opposite side of the street along with the other tourist) and watched.

The fiasco at the White House did not damper our fun-filled day of exploring. We saw the Lincoln Memorial, Korean and Vietnam Memorial, and the WWII Memorial. Both of my grandfathers fought in the war and when they were building the memorial, we donated money and sent in information on both grandfathers– where you can now look them up by name or under their regime. When it opened years ago we took a trip with my grandmother to see the memorial. It was nice to revisit, perhaps my favorite memorial there.

After getting all of our American history lessons in we decided to head back to Georgetown to have dinner at Filomena. It was recommended to me by followers and friends, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. So good! After dinner we went back to the Avenue Suites hotel and stayed in our hotel room to watch the Ohio State Football game.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at the A Bar + Kitchen, before our flight home. The entire weekend was so much fun and I loved that I got to share it with my mom!
