A few weeks ago I fell in love. It was my first time visiting Charleston and everything about the southern city was beyond my dreams. I have been dying to go to Charleston for years now. For a city I have never been to, I was sure obsessed with it. I swooned over every colorful, charming picture that graced my Instagram feed. Finally I had enough of day dreaming about walking around the southern city and decided to go. And what better way to visit my favorite city than during my birthday. The whole week was perfect and my hotel… I didn’t want to leave. Cute as can be!

I stayed in Zero George, which was highly recommended by everyone. Zero George is this cute boutique hotel where the rooms make you feel as if you are staying at a friends house. The hotel consist of 4 houses; one is the main house that has the kitchen, lounge areas, bar, and restaurant, the other 3 houses are where the guests stay. In-between each house is a garden pathway and some lounging areas. My room, it felt as if they decorated it just for me. Everything was darling! I loved it!  Besides the cute rooms they have bikes to ride around the city, amazing food, and complimentary wine and cheese at happy hour. Oh and each night they had chocolates on the bedside table…..  I was in heaven. They also gifted me cute pajamas from LAKE. Zero George also offers cooking classes, as well as sailing classes. I wanted to learn how to sail but for my first time visiting Charleston I’d rather explore the town.

Since I was in Charleston for work and it was also my birthday, I had my parents join me from Ohio. Neither one of them have been to Charleston, it was nice to experience the city together. My mom also loves the TV Southern Charm (I got her hooked on it), it was the perfect trip to have them join me on. They stayed in another hotel while I was in Zero George, since my hotel only accommodates 1 to 2 people per room. I love my parents but I was glad to have my own space.

After checking in our bags, we decided to walk to King St. which is where all of the cute shops and restaurants are. We were visiting during the first week of school for college students and the day after the eclipse, so the entire town was busy and filled with lots of people. Since Charleston was so humid and hot, I felt too gross to try anything on.

We really did not have an agenda on the first day except to walk around aimlessly downtown. For dinner we ended up going to Jestine’s Kitchen, they have amazing home cooked meals. Unfortunately the heat and humidity made me lose my appetite. The thought of food, let alone the smell or taste made me nauseous. The only thing I could stomach was sweets and bread (and I am GF… try finding GF bread in the south). It was completely unfortunate because Charleston is known for it’s food culture. What little I could eat, it seemed like in normal circumstances I would really like it. Such a bummer.  After Jestine’s Kitchen we went  back to our separate hotels, I still had work to do and we were tired from our travels. All I wanted was to get swallowed up in my comfy bed, eat my chocolates, and watch TV.
