“Roots grow before blossoms show”

-Vex King

Happy Friday! Lights, camera, action….. it’s a showbiz type of week. From Taylor Swift to being on set of a movie, I’ve been living the showgirl life.

Still listening to Taylor’s The Life of a Showgirl album. She really does put narcotics into her songs but I can’t stop listening to it on loop. It’s that good! I do not understand some of the negative comments surrounding it. It’s ok if her music isn’t your style, but it’s so bizarre to me how much effort people put into to trashing her. It’s performative, pick me, and misogynistic. To me it’s a fun album that makes me smile and want to dance. Life it too short, and hard enough, to not enough the things you love. And it’s too short to spend time, your breath, on things that you do not like. “Opalite” is still my favorite song on the album! It makes me want to dance in the streets, fills my heart with joy and love, and gets me excited for a possible romantic partner. And I learned the viral “The Fate of Ophelia” dance!

Last weekend I went to see an early screening of Colleen Hoover’s book to movie adaptation Regretting You. It’s stars Allison Williams, Dave Franco, McKenna Grace, and Mason Thames. The screening was hosted by Threads at the Crosby Street Hotel’s theater. Prior to seeing the movie I hadn’t read the book, so wasn’t sure what it was about. Since then I have read the book and will say it’s one of the rare occasions where I think the book and the movie are equally as good. There were things I am glad they took out for the movie from the book. However, I loved getting into more detail, personal thoughts, within the book. I really enjoyed the movie and highly suggest going to see it! While at the movie they gave us some fun swag; a sweatshirt, blanket, the book, candy, and a journal.

This week I was on set as a background actor for a movie that will be on a streaming service platform. Last week I had a fitting for the movie, which I had so much fun trying on different outfits. I got to wear one of those outfits for the movie along with jewelry, shoes, and a handbag all provided by wardrobe. It was a very long two days on set. 12 hours days and had to be on set by 6am. We shot in Jersey at a beautiful venue. This was one of those rare times where I didn’t really get to be on set. I only shot for 20 mins and spent the rest of the time in holding reading a book. This happens every once in a while.

After chatting with some of my fellow background actors who do this for a living, every once in a while you will be hired for a movie or tv show and end up never seeing the set. There is no rhyme or reason to it, just luck. I basically walked into holding, put my stuff down at a random table and that table wasn’t called to go on set. When I was finally called to set (after 8 hours of waiting), all I did was cross the room for one scene. Then they didn’t need me anymore. That’s showbiz babe. I may or may not be in the movie, depending on if they cut the scene or do not show the angle in which I am in. While I would have loved to have been included in more scenes, I am grateful I got to at least see the set and the actors in the movie. It was still fun to get dressed up, hair and make up done, and see the beautiful set. I also enjoyed hanging out with other background actors and getting paid to just sit and read my book. And even though I barely did anything, my body still hurts and I am tired haha!

What I am watching: I didn’t start anything new this week considering I went to bed early because of my 3am wakeup time. I did, however, stay up to watch Dancing with the Stars. I could not miss the opportunity to vote for my favorites! Disney night is always fun. I thought Alix Earle and Whitney Leavitt were the best ones of the evening. I am still rooting for Robert Irwin to win it all. And was very happy Hilaria and Gleb were eliminated!! Can’t stand either one, sorry.

What I bought: I also didn’t buy anything new. However, my mom surprised me with a gift! She bought me these rattan sleigh bells. I have been eyeing them for years but they always sell out before I can get them. She saw that they were in stock this season, so bought them for me before they sold out. I am very excited to place them somewhere in my apartment for Christmas!!
