“We have a little garden, a garden of our own, and every day we water there, the seeds that we have sown”

-Beatrix Potter

Happy Friday! I learned a fun fact the other day. In France it is traditional to give and receive lily of the valley flowers on the 1st of May. It symbolizes good luck, happiness, and the start of spring. It started with King Charles IX who gave the ladies of his court the flowers. I wish we had something as lovely as that here in the US.

This past week I was a very busy bee. From work to events to book club and more; I’ve been running around town. Last Sunday evening my book club finally met up after a very long hiatus. Since Guest of a Guest is no longer around, the book club was put on pause until further notice. Now it’s back and I was so, so happy to be reunited with my book club friends! The gathering was at Maxwell Social in Tribeca. This is my second time at Maxwell Studios, but my first time in this particular space within the club. I love the way they decorated it!

The book we read was How To Sleep at Night by Elizabeth Harris. I enjoyed the book but it wasn’t my favorite. However, I do think it makes for a great book club discussion on politics and family. Elizabeth Harris was there for a quick Q&A on her writing process and inquiries on the book. I always love hearing from the authors because it puts a new perspective on the book itself. The event was fun and I loved catching up with my friends over champagne and books.

I went back to my usual DanceBody tuesday class. It was a bittersweet class. Emily, one of the instructors, said farewell to DB. Emily is one of my favorite instructors so I am really sad to see her go, but happy for her future and what comes next. Instead of doing the quarter dances, we did some of Emily’s favorite dances throughout the years. It was so much fun revisiting dances from the past– some I knew well, some I forgot about but picked up quickly, and some I have never seen before. It was a very fun class!

Tuesday evening I went downtown to Ludlow House for an early screening of Another Simple Favor starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. The event was held by Meta x Threads.  I haven’t seen the original in a very long time so had to look up the synopsis to remind myself of what happened. I remember liking the movie but not being obsessed with it like some people are apparently. I will say I very much enjoyed the sequel– dare I say it’s better than the first. It was shot in Capri, so already the background is much more beautiful and chic. I thought it was funny, well thought-out, lots of twists and turns, still bizarre in the best way, and the acting was great. I don’t care what anyone says, Blake Lively is a good actress and it is shown in this film. Definitely go see it– if not at least for all the fashion!

Oh, I almost forgot. When arriving at the event the front desk told me (and 2 others) to take the elevator to the third floor and then turn right. So we did and ended up walking into some company’s private event. At first we didn’t realize this; I did find it strange, upon walking in, the number of people and the type of people there. It felt too corporate. Anyway, I did see a large screen so I assumed I was in the right place. I started taking pictures of the crowd and the decor. Then I was heading towards the hor d’oeuvres when I was told I was at the wrong event! So the 3 of us left and went down the hall to Ludlow’s movie theater room for the correct event! Oops!! haha, oh well!

The fun didn’t stop there, Wednesday afternoon I went to Hobbs London’s luncheon at Ci Siamo in Hudson Yards. This is Hobbs London’s first event in the US, so I am very grateful they thought of me. The luncheon was so lovely! I met a lot of the women working for Hobbs and a few England influencers. As well as got to catch up with a few of my NYC friends. I wore this beautiful linen sage green suit- blazer and pants. My top picks were between the suit and this floral dress, but ended up going for the suit because I do not have that many suits and the color felt unique for workwear.  Anyway, they showed us the upcoming collections for summer and beginning of fall– some very great pieces! The food was absolutely delicious; I ate way too much and was very happy to do so! I FINALLY had a gluten free cheesecake!! I NEVER get to have cheesecake…. Anyway, the entire day was so fun and I loved getting to know everyone! I need to make a trip to London, and to Cotswolds, soon!! I may never come back…

What I am watching: The final season of You is back!! I wasn’t sure how they were going to continue on back in New York, but I am enjoying the season so far. I am curious how this all will end; feels like there are only two options (death or jail) but I could be wrong. I really do not know!

What I bought: I didn’t buy anything new this week. I did, however, start Ina Garten’s new memoir Be Ready When Luck Happens on audiobooks. I really do not know much about Ina Garten’s life and how she started Barefoot Contessa. So far I am really enjoying it, and am pleasantly surprised by her as well.

This weekend I have a lot of work to do. I have a few projects coming up and work that I am behind on. No Cinco de Mayo or Kentucky Derby party for me– but I will be watching! I really do enjoy the Kentucky Derby and am sad to not dress up and wear a big fancy hat this year. Other than work I will be finishing my book, do a little yoga and/or Pilates, and hopefully get outside to enjoy the spring weather we are having before the rain comes.
