“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand”

-Mary Shelley

Happy Friday! I am back in New York after a wonderful week in Marco Island with my family. I came back just in time for all the rain and an earthquake….. scared me a little. Everything was shaking. I had to hold onto my kitchen counter for support. At first I thought it was a truck going by (sometimes it can rattle my apartment), then thought my building collapsing. Once I realized it was an earthquake I stood under the door of my kitchen. It was a weird experience, but at lest Twitter is funny today.

Vacation was very relaxing and fun. The house we were staying at didn’t have enough bedrooms for all of us, so I slept in the pool house. It was really nice actually! I had my own space, as well as my own bathroom and kitchen. Very quiet and peaceful. We spent most of our days relaxing by the pool. The house also had a tennis court in the backyard, so we spent time playing tennis and pickleball. Do you play pickleball? I find it enjoyable! I keep meaning to join a league here in New York.

During our stay in Marco we only went to the beach one time, which is usually enough for me. I much rather be poolside. I usually spend my entire time at the beach collecting seashells. I took a few home to add to my growing collection and gave the rest of my findings to my nieces. One sea shell that I took home for myself I had to wrestle out of giant boulder rocks by the water. Ruined my nails, but worth it. Maggie: 1 Mother Nature: 0.

Besides swimming and fighting mother nature, we went shopping at the little boutiques around the island. I bought a new pair of earrings- blue woven hoops. We also went out to dinner a few times, trying new places and revisiting old ones. Snook Inn was back after being under construction last year due to the hurricane. It was nice to be back– it’s one of our favorite restaurants there.  Overall it was a wonderful vacation and I wish I was still there.

This week has been mostly about catching up on all of the work that I didn’t do while on vacation. I had my 2nd physical therapy session. She gave me more exercises to do at home, and gave me a mini massage to help relieve the tension. I haven’t seen much improvement in reducing the pain in my neck and traps, but I did play a lot of tennis, pickleball, and swam laps last week…. probably wasn’t the best idea.

What I am watching: Last weekend I finally watched the new Mean Girls movie. I loved it! I don’t know why so many people disliked the movie. I thought it was enjoyable! I did see it on broadway, so was already familiarized with all the changes. The movie is an adaptation of the broadway show, not the original movie. Anyway, I thought it was fun, humorous, enjoyable, and kept the overall essence of the storyline.I loved the singing and dancing– especially the Halloween scene. The only thing I did find to be a little strange was how PC they made it. I do not remember word from word of the broadway show, but the dialogue and storyline is less offensive than the movie. Most of which is rightfully so– e.g. Coach Carr and Trang Pak. However, I wish they kept the part in Ms. Norbury’s speech during the gathering of the junior girls in the gymnasium about how they (women in general) need to stop calling each other bitches and sluts because it makes it ok for guys to say it. I don’t know why they cut that part out. Anyway, I loved it and will definitely be watching it again.

I watched part 1 of the Steve! (Martin) documentary on AppleTV+. I, like so many of you, love Steve Martin. From King Tut to Father of the Bride to Only Murders in the Building, I have loved his silly sense of humor. It’s a great documentary. I didn’t realize how little I knew of his upbringing and how he broke out in not only the comedy world, but Hollywood in general. I will probably watched part 2 sometime this weekend.

Last but certainly not least I started watching Palm Royale on AppleTV+. I am obsessed!! I can’t get enough of the fashionable ladies of Palm Beach in the 1960’s. Kristen Wiig does a phenomenal job; right amount of humor, empathy, and mischief. Of course my absolute favorite part of the entire series is the all the fabulous vintage fashion!! Makes me want to pull out some of my old Lilly shift dresses, put on my cat-eye sunglasses, and drink a martini. The series also makes me want to go to Palm Beach. I have only been there once in my life and now need to go back!

What I bought: The only thing I bought this past week was this pink oversized button-down— currently on sale and under $100. I tried it on at J.Crew a few weeks ago and loved the look. However, I wanted to wait until it went on sale to buy. It’s a great top to lounge in and work from home in. I ordered an x-small which is what I tried on at the store.

This weekend I have nothing planned and am happy about it. These next few weeks are really busy with travel, events, and get togethers with friends, I want a little time for some rest. I will probably do some spring cleaning this weekend– I need to do a closet clean. I will also read my new book, work out, and will probably go for a walk around the city.

Have a wonderful weekend xo
