“Breathing dreams like air”

-F. Scott Fitzgerald

Happy Friday! Like the rest of the world I was refreshing my socials for updates on the submersible. What a tragedy. Yes there were a lot of factors going into it that could have been prevented for the safety of the voyagers. I will never understand why anyone would ignore such things, especially with this level of endangerment. Pure negligence. Still, it’s so sad what happened. I don’t care that they are billionaires and paid $250K to explore something they are passionate about. They are still human beings who tragically lost their lives in the most horrific way. I don’t understand the people who are being inhumane about it. There is a difference to me in making a lighthearted joke about the Titanic versus being almost giddy about humans losing their lives because they are wealthy. It’s distasteful. What ever happened to our innate compassion as humans? I do agree, however, that you couldn’t pay me to take part in this venture. The tight space alone would give me anxiety.

On a lighter note, I went to my Tuesday ritual of taking a DanceBody class. We have one more week before the new dances and I am definitely ready. I have enjoyed this quarter’s dances but I am ready to move on. Summer dances are always so much fun to do–and from the glimpses they have shown us on Instagram, the dances look fun!

Last night I went to the opening night of the American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Season. It was also their Summer Gala so everyone was dressed to the nines. It was so lovely to see men in tuxedos and women in evening wear. Felt glamourous. I also ran into a few of my old co-workers which was nice! I used to worked for the American Ballet Theatre over 10 years ago. It was my first job here in New York– the reason why I moved here. I absolutely loved working for ABT. It is still one of my favorite jobs that I have ever had and to be honest, I wish I never left. However, they didn’t have the funds to keep me so I was let go. But everything happens for a reason and it brought me here as a full-time blogger. That I am grateful for.

To kick off the season they premiered the new ballet Like Water for Chocolate. It is a contemporary ballet. Meaning it has the undertones of classical ballet but with elements of modern dance. It doesn’t follow the repertoire of classical ballet. There isn’t a pas de deux followed by variations. The story continuously flows and the movements compliment it. The ballet is an adaptation of the 1989 book Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Set in Mexico, we follow the youngest daughter of the De La Garza family, Tita. In an unwritten rule, it is tradition for the youngest daughter to not marry. She must take care of her mother as she ages. However, Tita falls in love with the boy next door, Pedro. We follow their forbidden love throughout the ages as they try desperately to be with one another. It’s a beautiful ballet and a lovely story. The ending of the ballet is perhaps my favorite part. They have an opera singer perform during the pas de deux– it was ethereal. I was emotional watching it. Please go see Like Water for Chocolate— ends on July 2. And definitely see the rest of the summer season. I have my tickets already!

What I am watching: I started the new mini series The Crowded Room featuring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried. It is really good! Bizarre, but good! The story is inspired by Billy Milligan – the Ohio State campus rapist in the 70s who was acquitted based on insanity. The first person to ever be dismissed of a crime because of dissociative identity disorder. The Crowded Room is not at all the same story. It is completely different, but it is set in the 70s and showcases how Tom Holland’s character may be dealing with mental health issues. The story really gets you hooked on wanting to know what happens next. The acting is incredible– give them all Emmy’s! I highly recommend this one.

I started watching Felicity for the first time. I have seen a few episodes back in the day but never the entirety of the show. I don’t know why I never got into it when it originally aired back in the 90s. Anyway, I am almost finished with season 1. I do like it but Felicity is a little creepy, no? She follows a guy who she had a crush on in high school all the way to NYC for college. In the real world Ben would be put off by Felicity. Instead he becomes best friends with her even though she does borderline stalker things– like sending him her college essay about him, trying to do couples Halloween costumes, gets mad if he flirts with other girls. It’s a little weird. I don’t know if I am team Ben or team Noel yet. I think I am more team Noel. He really loves Felicity and cares more for her than Ben. Ben only sees Felicity as a friend (for now) and uses her friendship to benefit himself. It’s a good show overall! I love the nostalgia of the 90s and it being set in NYC.

What I bought: Earlier this spring I spotted this floral midi dress from Tuckernuck. Unfortunately it sold out before I  purchase it. It was one of those items that you think about and wished you had it. What could have been. Well by the grace of God it came back in stock and I grabbed it immediately! It is a great dress to throw on and wear casually throughout the day. I love day dresses and I am excited to add this one to my summer wardrobe.

I had to buy a new stencil for my mirror project. Yes I am still trying to get this project going. I had bought a stencil back in March through Etsy. It was suppose to take a month to deliver, yet I never received it. And what do you know the company that sold the stencil was no longer part of Etsy when I went back to message them. I notified Etsy and they thankfully reimbursed me. It has taken me a while to find a new one that I liked. I finally found this floral one and am currently waiting for it’s arrival. Once I do I will go out and buy paint and finally start this project!

This weekend it I am going to the Taylor Swift: Storyteller exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design. I am so excited for the exhibit and to see all of her old stage costumes. It is suppose to rain here all week– in fact it is suppose to rain all next week– so most of my weekend will be indoors. I will probably do some work, watch Netflix, finish my book, and workout.

Have a wonderful weekend xo
