giving tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday and this year especially it is important that we lend a helping hand to those in need. The pandemic left many American families struggling. There are so many organizations to donate to for different causes. From feeding families to ensuring kids have a happy Christmas to helping someone who is struggling with their mental health. This season it’s important we take care of one another. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we can only survive by banding together to make a difference and supporting each other. Here are a few organizations you can support this holiday season.

Feeding America: With unemployment rates going up, many Americans are finding it harder than ever to feed their families. For more than 40 years Feeding America has fought to help end hunger.

Disney Toys for Tots: Each holiday season I donate to Toys for Tots so a child will wake up on Christmas morning with a present underneath the tree. Since we are in the middle of a pandemic, I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to drop off toys. Luckily I saw that Disney has partnered with Toys for Tots for an easy, one-click process. All you have to do is purchase a toy from their shop and Disney will take care of the rest. This will end on December 13th, so please make sure to get your donations in on time.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital: For more than 70 years St. Jude has cared for and treated children suffering from illness. This holiday season, and year-round, St. Jude hospital needs our donations to continue the fight against cancer and other diseases. These children deserve to live a long happy life.

Help Military Families: There are still men and women who are deployed overseas and will not be able to spend the holidays with their families. Many military families struggle financially, especially around this time of the year. From donating Christmas trees to paying for layaways to donating food and toys, there are many different ways you can help military families have a wonderful holiday season.

National Alliance on Mental Illness: Our mental health is and should be the most important priority in our lives. Unfortunately, since the pandemic started suicide rates have gone up. Many Americans are struggling. Donating will help NAMI continue to have programs and support groups for people struggling with mental illness. If you want to do more than donate a dollar, you can sign up for Letters Against Depression where you write to those who need support more than ever right now. To let them know there is someone out there who cares.

Care Packages: This year more than ever we owe so much gratitude to essential workers. They kept us alive and kept the economy going when the world shut down. Here are a few ideas you can add to your care package. A way to say thank you!

The Humane Society: Our furry little friends need love as well. The Humane Society cares for and fights for animals all across the world. To help their survival from hunting, puppy mills, homelessness, cruelty, and more.

Dress for Success: From monetary donations to bags of old clothes and unused make-up, Dress for Success helps women gain economic independence and support them in their venture into work world. Now they are helping women who have been affected by COVID.
