“Never let the sadness of your past, and the fear of your future, ruin the happiness of your present.”

Happy Friday! It’s been one of those weeks where time seems to go by quickly. It feels as though I wake up and the next thing I know it’s dinner time. It wasn’t that I had an abnormal amount of work or things-to-do, but what I was doing seemed to take forever to accomplish. Which left me little to no time to go to the grocery store, go for a run, or read.

Last week I made a goal for myself to run at least once a week until winter starts. Although the week hasn’t officially ended, I already failed my goal. I have yet to go for a run, I couldn’t motivate myself to do it. Last week I ran 3 days; felt great, and couldn’t wait to run again this week. Unfortunately, I felt, well, blah for lack of a better term. I am hoping to get a run in, either Saturday or Sunday. I can’t beat myself up too much as I still worked out, but did more low impact exercises. Thinking maybe I need new activewear to remotivate myself to go back out and run again.

A little off-brand for Blush and Blooms, but I am pretty disappointed college football is canceled. I am from Ohio, which makes me a Buckeye fan. OSU is the only football team I will watch. I was especially looking forward to this season as it would give me something to do and look forward to every Saturday. Now I do not know who to root for? My cousin works for the University of Tennesse, so maybe I’ll watch a game or two of them. We will see! When the discussion to postpone or cancel fall sports first came out, I was advocating for them to have a season. I am someone who is taking COVID seriously and I still thought that they could easily make do with a season. They could take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and health of the players and coaches; house the kids all in one dorm, online learning, testing them once a week, checking temperatures before every practice/game. My heart breaks for these kids of all fall sports (not just football) who will not get to play this year because the BIG10 canceled the season. Some of these kids are seniors and will never play again. Some are 5th years returning because they were injured last year and they want one more year of playing the beloved game. And it’s more than that– for smaller universities, canceling sports or classes really impacts the town’s economy. In these small college towns, the university is the lively hood that keeps them afloat. Without bringing in money through recreational activities–sports and arts– the town suffers and the poverty grows. I understand that having a sports season, with traveling and being exposed to a large group, can cause the spread of the virus. It also means there will not be an audience to bring in revenue through ticket sales and concession stands. But either way, the universities will make money through boosters and alumni who will still donate no matter what. Let the kids play!

This weekend I will be doing my usual– walking around, reading, watching TV/movies, working out, etc. It looks like it is going to storm the entire weekend, so I may be indoors the entire time. I do not mind rainy days, but I want some sunshine so I can go for a walk. My daily walks keep me sane during this time of uncertainty. I get fresh air, exercise, a chance to think and listen to music. Speaking of doing things to keep yourself sane, I have taken some time this past week to meditate which also helps calm my anxiety. I know I am not alone in feeling scared for the future and sad about current events. We are all having an emotional time. I think the best thing to do is to talk to someone about it– whether friend, family member, therapist or even journaling. Just releasing the pent up energy of your emotions will make you feel so much better. Also, dance parties help out a lot!

Have a wonderful and safe weekend xo
