It’s the most wonderful time of the year! New York Fashion Week is upon us and I for one am pretty excited about it. There are two types of bloggers: those that only enjoy the events surrounding NYFW and those that prefer the shows. I am one that loves going to the shows more than attending the events. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good party. It’s fun to mix and mingle with friends, network with others in the industry and experience a cool evening, but there is something to be said for watching a runway show. I can always go to an event, I can’t always go to a runway show. It’s where you see upcoming collections and gawk over the beautiful clothing you can’t touch for 6 months. This will be my 7th(?) September NYFW and each season is a pinch-me moment. NYFW officially starts for me tomorrow (Wednesday the 4th) with a showroom preview and a meeting with a brand. My first runway show is on Thursday afternoon. Although I already have a few things lined up there are still a few shows I am waiting for an invitation. Hopefully, I get into the shows!! Pray for me!

Deciding on what to wear to New York Fashion Week can be overwhelming. I used to worry about it– will I look as if I fit in? Will I be fashionable enough? Is my outfit unique or cool? Will this be the year a photograph of me will make it on Vogue or Fashionista websites? One can only hope! I no longer fill my days leading up to NYFW with such anxiety as I am used to going. The more I go, the more I know what to expect. I can’t become someone who wears a wacky outfit to get photographed, that isn’t me. All I can do is elevate my style just a little, wear what I want and enjoy the moment. This dress from Ulla Johnson was one I was dying to get for NYFW. With its statement sleeve, oversized skirt and pretty floral print, I knew it was the right dress for the occasion. I still have yet to decide what day and what show I am going to wear it to but it’s one that I am very excited to wear while watching a show and mingling with NYFW crowd. This year I finally, FINALLY have white booties to wear with dresses and skirts- tying in summer and fall together seamlessly. It’s also a lot more comfortable than wearing stilettos to every show, and I have made that mistake before. Never. Again. NYFW is all about having fun, being surrounded by the world’s most fashionable people (lots of inspo!!) and showing how you create your own style.
