phone apps

There seems to be an app for everything these days. From games to creating content to managing your bills, if you need it you can have it. Majority of my apps are used for creating content, I am constantly adding new ones which is why I always have storage issues. Sigh. Anyway, I do have a few apps on my phone for more practical functions likes reservations or keeping my health in-check. Here are a few apps I use daily on my phone.

StoryArt

Ever wonder how Influencer’s Insta Stories seem to have a unique design to their posts? Well we use apps like Story Art. If I went to an event and took multiple pictures that need to be uploaded to my stories, instead of bombarding you with a million posts I will create a collage to showcase the photos in a creative way. Story Art is one of the 5 apps I use to create Insta Stories.

Inshot

If I am posting a short video on Insta Stories and want to change it a little I use Inshot. Inshot is a great way to create and edit videos right there on your phone. I use it to cut footage, slow or speed up the video, dub in music, add text, etc. I only use it for my Insta Story videos. When I create longer videos like this one, I use iMovie on my desktop.

Flo

Since getting off birth control I needed an app to help track my period or as I like to call it- my lady situation. Flo has been an amazing tool to help with my cycles; not only to track my menstrual cycle and ovulation dates, but to also log in my symptoms (cramps, bloating, mood swings). Once I log everything in they usually suggest an article or two on why I may be feeling this way or that way and what I can do to help it. It’s more than just what day your period is going to start, it talks about women’s health and reproductive system. They have articles about PCOS, fertility, sleep cycles and other female issues.

Resy

Looking for a place to eat and need to make a reservation? Resy is the app for you! My friend introduced me to Resy last year when we were in Soho wanting to have lunch after a photoshoot. We tried a few restaurants but couldn’t get in because it was too busy. My friend pulled out her phone and used Resy to locate another restaurant and grabbed a reservation for us. Since then I have used it for many occasions when needing to reserve a table. And most importantly it’s the only app that The Blue Box Cafe uses for reservations AND I STILL CAN NOT GET IN! Although it is great for reservations, I also like to use it to know what restaurants are around me. Lets say you are visiting New York and didn’t know where to get a gluten free meal, Resy can help you with that- just search gluten free and it will show you restaurants around your location that serves GF items!

Color Story

When I capture a picture on my phone and want to post it onto my Insta Feed or Insta Stories I always run it through Color Story. Color Story has hundreds of different filters for your photos. I have a favorites folder that I will test out on my pictures and play with the aesthetics– light/dark, etc. It’s so much more efficient to use, especially when I do not have time to run the photo through Lightroom. I can take a picture, throw it into Color Story to keep my content consistent and then post it onto my feed or Insta Stories. Easy to use and highly suggested.

Word Search

The only game I have on my phone is Word Search. It is a mindless activity to do while I am on the train or sitting and watching TV. It’s not hard, does take a little thinking but nothing challenging.  There are a few games within the app. The first being the Daily Puzzle and Classic. For the Puzzle you only get a phrase and empty word bubbles as I like to call them– sorta like Hangman. Anyway, you have to find a hidden word within jumbled letters that goes with the daily phrase. For the Classic they tell you what words to look for… see, not hard. Besides the daily games they have an entire category for games just like Puzzle and timed games as well. The timed games are the most challenging, especially as you progress they give you more words to find in a short amount of time. If you are looking for a mindless, addictive, fun game that makes you semi-think, then this game is for you.

Insight Timer

Love to mediate or want to start meditating? Insight Timer is an app that holds thousands of different guided meditations from people around the world. You can choose your meditation on themes like aligning your chakras, manifestation, love, forgiveness, relaxation, abundance, sleep, etc. You can also search for the duration– 30 mins, 2 hours, 5 mins, etc. Their meditations range from musical enjoyments, guided breathing meditations, and woo-woo meditations like “and now you see a unicorn far in the forest.” I have a wild imagination so I do enjoy those, but I like listening to all of the above. It depends on my mood and what I am looking for at the moment. Sometimes when I work I will put on meditation music to help me focus and stay calm. I go through phases where I will listen to Insight Timer daily or weeks will go by and I haven’t listened to it once. I keep telling myself I will get in the habit of listening to a meditation once a day, but sometimes it isn’t always realistic.
