“evolving involves eliminating”

-Erykah Badu

Happy Friday! Just when you thought I was going to be free from melodrama, insert injury. It seems I have done something to my…well.. my bottom. I originally thought I brushed my tailbone. I woke up Thursday morning with shooting pain from that reign of my body. I can not bend over, sit down/ stand up quickly, do squats, left my right leg backwards, sit on a hard surface for too long, sit in general for too long. The weird thing about it is that I did not fall or bump into anything. The pain just showed up out of nowhere.  I went to workout Thursday morning because I 1) didn’t want to get charged a late cancellation fee and 2) wanted to test out my mobility. I thought if I would move about, the pain would go away; hoping at the time it could ultimately just be a cramp or a knot. Turns out I was not very mobile and could only do my arms. I need to be airlifted to places now.

I asked for recommendations from people and some say I should go to PT and/or the Chiropractor. Some said since I did not do anything to injury myself it could be a cyst or some other underlying condition. I went to the doctor this morning and it turns out I pulled a muscle near my tailbone. Which is good news, I guess. I should be ok next week! What my doctor thinks happened is that my body was out of alignment ( I have scoliosis so this is very common for me) and when I went running this past Monday I may have landed on my right leg wrong pulling the muscle.  Now I have to relax it but also keep it moving, put heat on it, Advil, stretch, sit on cushions only, all of the good stuff. She did say going to a Chiropractor would be beneficial, so I am looking into going on Monday or Tuesday. If the pain is still there by end of next week then I will get x-rays and see an Orthopedic doctor. Hopefully it does not come to that.

Besides my injury, my week has been going pretty well. One of my very best friends was in town visiting so we met up for brunch at Westville in FiDi this past Tuesday. After brunch we walked around South Street Seaport and the 911 Memorial. Mar, my friend, is from Brazil so I do not see her that often. She was an exchange student of one of my high school friends my junior year. She instantly connected with our group and we kept in touch with her– her visiting a couple of times, meeting her family (her sister ended up being an exchange student for another one of my friends family), inviting her to weddings etc. It’s pretty cool that we all kept in touch for 16 years– I don’t think most people who do exchange programs have that type of relationship with their host still, and especially not with the host’s friends. I really cherish my friendship with Mar and no matter the distance or how long it’s been since we have seen each other (it’s been 4 years since we last saw each other), nothing really has changed. We talk about everything, laugh, and have a good time!

Wednesday evening I went to the DL1961 kick-off to summer event at the MADE hotel in NOMAD. I had SO MUCH FUN! Maybe I was in the mood for a night out, it wasn’t like anything special happened, just good friends drinking on a rooftop. I met some great people that night as well and had some good conversations about podcasts, NYC, and life in general. The DJ was excellent, the champagne was flowing, the conversations were great, and I was grooving to the music. It was a fun night! I do feel bad for anyone who has come in contact with me these past two weeks….. I can not shut up. I keep talking and talking about anything and everything. I have always been a talker, my parents have said their biggest regret in life is teaching me how to speak because I never stopped talking as a kid. But I do know when to rail it back in and have plenty of moments where I do not feel like being a Chatty Cathy.  Lately, however, after a few drinks I am gab city. Having too good of a time I guess.

This weekend, if I can move, I am going to the American Ballet Theater’s performance of Jane Eyre. Before the performance I was invited to a Q&A with Isabella Boylston, who is one of my favorite principle dancers at the company, and Thomas Forster, a soloist for ABT. I have yet to see this ballet, very excited about it! Other than that I am helping a friend set-up/design her new website!! And most likely be laying in bed watching movies/Netflix/reading all weekend to rest my body. Oh and of course watching the new JoBro documentary Chasing Happiness and the Tony Awards!!

Have a wonderful weekend xo
