“what’s so great about New York is that the people who move here, and the people who stay here, don’t do it because they want to live an easy life. They do it because they want to see how big they can make their life. How big can the adventure be”

-James Nord

Happy Friday!! What a great week this was with the Met Gala, the new Royal baby, and my boyfriend Shawn Mendes in the new Calvin Klein campaign. Bravo CK, we didn’t deserve this but you delivered.

The Met Gala I was very pleased with! Before it began I was still unclear of what the theme actually was and what to expect. After reading countless articles, none of them were clear on the theme and mostly talked about the essay in which this year was based off of. Honestly, I did not think I was going to like it, especially after last year’s theme being “Heavenly Bodies”, it was beautiful. It wasn’t until I started watching E! News coverage of the Met Gala that I finally understood the theme because of Brad Goreski and Zanna Rassi actually explaining it. Camp means to be extra, flamboyant, tacky but still make it work. Upon hearing that I finally understood and was so excited to see what was in store. And it did not disappoint! Of course the Met Gala was not the same without Rihanna and Blake Lively, but I still think it was pretty good. Lady Gaga’s 15 minute theatrical production was amazing. It really set the tone of the evening and made me even more excited. Gucci, if you did not know, was the main sponsored designer for this year. The co-chairs were Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, and Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele. Along with Anna Wintour of course, who wore one of Karl Lagerfeld’s last designs.

Some of my favorite looks from the Met Gala were Lady Gaga, Celin Dion, Lana Condor, Rachel Brosnahan, Kendall Jenner, Janelle Monae, and Emily Blunt. I absolutely loved that Jared Leto showed up with his own decapitated head, paying homage to the Gucci runway show in Milan last year.  Billy Porter’s entrance was also a mood that I want to convey 24/7. I really wanted to love Lili Reinhart’s look, and I did except for the fact that is the same silhouette she wore to last year’s Met Gala. Harry Styles can do no wrong when it comes to fashion in my book, but I wanted more from him. He embodies ‘Camp’. He looks more camp on stage and in real life than he did in this all black Gucci sheer lace pussy bow top and high trousers (also like, can I borrow it sometime?). I was expected him to go all out with colors, florals, sequins, and not wear all black. Le sigh. Most of the men, once again, were a total yawn. Kanye looked like he forget his was going to the Met Gala and happen to be wearing his $40 Dickies jacket that day. He looked like Kim K’s security guard. Patrick Schwarzenegger looked like he thought camp meant the literally meaning of camping in his cowboy outfit. Some guys looked great but not on theme like my other boyfriend Richard Madden. Over all I loved the outcome and can’t wait to go to the Met Museum to see the exhibition.

Besides living vicariously through celebrities and Royals, my week was good. Can’t complain. Monday evening I went to the Arlo Hotel in Soho for The Zoe Report x Sorel event. It was a nice event and I saw a few of my friends whom I have not seen in a while. It was nice to catch up and look at the new collections of Rachel Zoe and Sorel. I didn’t stay long because I wanted to watch the Met Gala red carpet, but I still had a great time!

Tuesday evening I went to the Brussels Airlines event. They are redesigning their seats for better comfort and practicality on all of their planes. Pretty comfy sits if you ask me. Afterwards I went downtown to the Campo Viejo wine tasting event at the new James Hotel in Soho. The weather was amazing that night, so it was nice to drink wine on the rooftop. They had two of their wine makers explain the differences of their wines and the creation. It was all very interesting. We each had our own wine tasting section entailing glasses, bottles, and beakers. They had us try 3 different flavors of red wines: Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo. To be honest I am not a fan of red wine, I much prefer white. I did, however, really like the Graciano and Mazuelo the best. After we tasted each flavor they had us mixed them together using a beaker tube. They told us the amount to put in for each one to create a new flavor. We mixed the wines twice, with two different measurements of each flavor, and then we were able to create our own mixture to put into a wine bottle to take home. We were suppose to use a beaker to measure but for some reason I didn’t get one or someone took mine by accident. Anyway, at this point I was a little tipsy and didn’t care so I just started pouring the Graciano and Mazuelo together with a little bit of the Tempranillo for a sweet flavor. I named it “Does The Deed”, because no matter what it will still get you drunk. I have yet to try my experiment, so it could be completely awful or amazing. Either way I enjoyed playing a wine sommelier for the evening.

Wednesday night I  participated in the #BoxforCancer event at Gloveworx, located in the Oculus. I really enjoyed this workout. I haven’t boxed in a very long time, so it felt great to punch something. I have been told before that I have a wicked punch…. so watch out 😉 It was mostly shadow boxing mixed in with the vertical climber machine. I was completely fine until we started doing the machine and I died. Going from boxing to sprinting on the climber killed me. I believe we did shadowboxing because it was an event and I was one of the few who had boxed before, but they had a boxing ring and punching bags. Anyway, I am now moving like a robot because I am so sore. That night I went home to work on my blog and my hands wereshaking so much I couldn’t type or swipe up. Great workout!

Thursday afternoon I went to The Standard Hotel (lots of hotel events this week) in the East Village for the Neutrogena event. They were introducing their summer sunscreen line and had a panel discussion about the myths and truths behind using sunscreen. I think there is a lot of confusion about clean beauty and the chemicals used in skincare and makeup. I fully do not understand it and it’s something I am trying to get into. The panelists were saying the opposite of recent research on stripping away chemicals that have been used in our products for decades. To be honest I do not agree with them. I do like Neutrogena products and it’s a company that I am more than happy to use their products, I just think there is something to be said about the chemicals that the US use in products that have been banned in almost every other country. Our FDA rules and regulations have not been updated on chemicals in products since the 30’s. THINK of how much our environment, processing of foods, discoveries of the human body have changed since then. The sun itself has changed, especially in recent years, that it is hotter than ever before. This is why a lot of people are getting skin cancer. So why don’t we rethink about the chemicals we use and how we produce and create products that coincide with the changing world. It’s crazy to me that people and brands are not.

A blogger in attendance explained the discussion in a great way, she said: this seems like the cigarette fight of the 50’s when half the people were saying cigarettes won’t kill you and the other half saying cigarettes are bad for you. And what did we conclude? Cigarettes are bad for you. For me personally whether or not this new research of clean beauty is all clickbait, I rather be safe than sorry– I rather not use any chemicals or only safe chemicals than continue to use unsafe products. It’s also confusing when brands can say they are organic or “clean” when they really are not because of the FDA regulations. Again, I am not saying Neutrogena is an unsafe brand. I just think saying that all of this new research on clean beauty is only clickbait for the media is not the best way to go about things. Neutrogena says that they ensure that the chemicals they use in their products are safe and are tested to be safe and are FDA approved, and I believe them. I believe the chemicals they use are safe. And like I said I have used and will continue to use Neutrogena products. I am not talking ill of the company, I just think they shouldn’t say all of this research is only clickbait.

This weekend I am making it a spa weekend for me. I am going to get a deep tissue massage, sweating it out at an infrared sauna, stretching in yoga class, doing a few facial masks, and relaxing every chance I get. I need a reboot all systems, detox type of weekend. I even cancelled my Barry’s Bootcamp class today so I can rest my body. As we all know I am prone to injury, and since I am sore from boxing then going to pilates the next day, my body is in pain. I knew if I went to Barry’s I would wreak havoc on my body.

I wish I was going home this weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day and my parents 40th anniversary. Unfortunately I am not. 40 years! How incredible is that– I can barely stand to be around someone for 40 minutes let alone 40 years! (only half joking). Since I will not be with my own mother on Mother’s Day, I will be spending it with Mother of Dragons…. I hear this episode of Game of Thrones is going to be amazing!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend xo
