fall fashion trends 2018fall fashion trends 2018

As we gear towards the fall we are starting to see more and more of this seasons trends in stores and on the streets. We are currently at a time when truly anything goes, wear what makes you feel like you. Even though there are certain trends that dominate the scenes, nothing feels out of style. When I started to search for what is on trend this coming season I found many different answer… almost too many; leather is coming in all different garments, we will be seeing silver and sequins a little earlier than the norms of the holiday season, fringe will be on every single item you own, oversize is the new look, and it’s the return of ruching. Although there are many trends to sport this coming fall, there are a few that I personally find to be the best and easiest to wear without looking too trendy.

Animal Print

Leopard has always been on the forefront of trends during the cold seasons but for the last few years the popular print hasn’t been a main focal point for brands and consumers. This year the animal print is back on the prowl and ready to be one of the top trends. Leopard, as we all know or maybe it’s just me, is a fall neutral, a timeless, stable print really. You can pretty much wear it with any color. It gives your simple, basic outfit a pop of print and can be worn as any type of clothing item and accessory. I will say be careful when it comes to animal prints, there is a fine line of tackiness depending on the style and look. It can vary in color, shape, and size of the spots. Whether the print is trashy or classy I think can be defined by your own personal aesthetics and opinions. For me a leopard top looks better as a blouse, shoes look better clean and simple, and pants are, well usually a no for me. As for the color and shape of the spots I prefer a darker and smaller spots. Again it is all a preference and how you wear the print that really matters.

Surprise! Your days of playing cowgirls are back! I am strangely loving the western trend this fall season. It’s a little far from my usual donning of feminine florals, but I find it so fitting for this season. When shopping around online I have been noticing lots of cowboy boots, paisley prints, ruffle tops, and fringe jackets. If you want to dip your toes into this trend but not look like you are going to a rodeo, wear something classic like denim on denim with a bandana. or a ruffle blouse paired with a denim skirt and booties. Plaid is also a huge this season which is a great way to hit two trends with one look. Get ready to yeehaw because fashion is heading to the wild wild west.

The Color Red

Although many colors are donned during the fall season, there is always one or two colors that dominate the scene. This year you will be seeing lots of silver and red on the streets. For me I am loving anything that comes in red right now. It’s vibrant compared to the more muted hues of the season. I have already bought this dress in red and want this one as well.

Corporate World

If we have learned one thing from history it is that fashion reflects what is going on in current society. In the 20’s hemlines grew shorter as women rebelled. In the 60’s art, drugs, and sex were becoming culturally acceptable through music, festivals, and fashion. It reflected onto fashion through playful prints, loose (barely there) garments and shorter hemlines, and unisex clothing. With what is going on in society today it is no surprise that a more modest look is dominating our closets. Women are in a movement to express their voice, feel powerful, and are becoming entrepreneurs and creating their own paths. Last fall powersuits were all the rage but now they are picking up more steam by coming in different patterns and colors. From an 80’s influence of bigger shoulders to larger pockets, floral prints to metallics, the corporate world has never looked so chic. I have already showed you the blazer dress (seen here) and how I feel powerful and feminine in it. More and more designers are taking what is normally menswear and making it bold, fun, and feminine. Streetwear is out, sharp tailored styles are in.
