Being in New York for over 7 years I still get moments of surrealism when I think “my God I live here!”. I hope this feeling never goes away. It doesn’t happen every day, I go from work to the gym to back home like a normal person. But once a week something catches my eye or happens to me and it transforms me into gratefulness. One thing that makes me feel such abundance is the Empire State Building. I see it almost every day and yet I still love the sight of that tall building. It is the quintessential New York image. I even have an illustration of the building framed in my room that I purchased from Crate and Barrel (sold out now) about 6 years ago.

We have talked about brunch spots, date night spots and fun nights out with your friends, but what about when you want to grab something casual? Maybe it’s lunch or for dinner, something that is not expensive and you do not have to be waited on. A stop-and-go type place. As much as I love fancy restaurants, I can’t afford to wine and dine every night. Sometimes it is nice to get together with friends for a quick dinner. Yes there are plenty of chain restaurants that you can stop in, but you didn’t come all the way to NYC to eat at another Panera. Here are a few of my favorite, healthy cafe’s.

Any bar can become a dance party if you try hard enough. It does not matter to me what type of bar I am in; hole in the wall pubs or a club with disco balls and strobe lights, if there is music there will be a dance party going on. Heck I throw myself a dance party weekly in my apartment alone. Anyway, even though you can shake your groove thing anywhere, not all bars are equipped with a designated dance floor. Here are a few of my favorite bars in Manhattan where you can really bust a move.

When I was little I wanted to be a Broadway star when I grew up. My first trip to New York was when I was in elementary school with my dance studio. We took classes at Broadway Dance Center, saw shows, and walked about the city I would later call home. I fell in love with New York and knew I wanted to move here some day. On my next trip to NYC I asked my parents for a little painting from a street vendor down in Battery Park of all of the broadway shows. I placed the small painting (no bigger than a notebook) in my room and would stare at it, dreaming of living in NYC and being on Broadway. My first Broadway show I ever saw I was in elementary school. My parents took my sister and me to see Phantom Of The Opera. My parents bought me the Phantom mask and I would wear it around the house with a cape. I still have the mask in case you are wondering and would 100% wear the mask and a cape right now.
