“you will never speak to anyone more than you speak to yourself in your head. be kind to yourself”

Happy Friday! This has been a devastating week. With the deaths of two of the most innovative, creative people, Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, it’s time we really open up the platform about mental illness. We need this conversation to make it comfortable for those struggling to reach out to someone. There is nothing wrong with suffering from depression, anxiety, eating disorders and you are definitely not alone. With the deaths of both Kate and Anthony, it shows that you never know what is happening behind closed doors. You don’t know who is struggling behind a smile. Mental health happens to everyone with various religions, race, gender, success, and in different magnitudes. You don’t have to be contemplating suicide to be considered depressed or not being able to open up to someone. Depression is feeling empty inside, alone, a dark voice. Even if you are just feeling down, talk to someone. It’s time we start opening up, lending a hand, making this conversation comfortable. We get everything else checked why not get our minds check out. We are a culture obsessed with eating healthy, working out, “self care”, but we are missing the major component in health and that is taking care of our minds. Stop trying to make everyone else happy before yourself. A teacher once told me “you have to be selfish in order to be selfless”. You have to take care of yourself first. There is nothing wrong or weak about seeing a therapist, talking to a counselor, confiding in a friend or loved one, seeking help in anyway. You are not alone.

Besides the tragedies of two of the most beloved creators of our time, this week was all about checking things off of my do-to list, attending events, helping out friends, and diving deeper into my career.  Tuesday morning I attended The Egg House with Emily. The Egg House is a pop-up shop of art installations. The best way to describe it is a funhouse filled with egg decor.  Emily and I pretty much had the entire place to ourselves since we went right when they were opening. It was fun to play around in their pool of plastic balls, climb on a gigantic egg carton, swing on a half cracked egg, and take some fun pictures. The Egg House is the launch of a story and a franchise of Ellis The Egg.  I do believe the pop-up ends at the end of this month. They have plans to open up other pop-ups in LA and over seas. They will be back here in New York sometime next year!

That evening I went to the Redken’s House of Color event. You went through a maze where each room represented a different color. The brunette room was filled with brown bookshelves- like a study room. The red hair room was all blue with a couch inside a picture frame that you could take some pretty cool pictures of. The silver room was all silver and white with a disco ball. Then there was a room to celebrate all colors where they had a guy with a devil mask on painting a mural on a fake wall. It was a pretty cool experience! Of course after you go through the maze there is a room to get your hair done and another room which was for cocktails and yummy hor d’oeuvres. The had this grilled tomato and lobster hor d’oeuvre that I couldn’t stop eating… it was so good!

Wednesday morning I got up bright and early to head downtown to Project by Equinox to take a special class with City Fit Life. Sarah and Natalie are friends of mine and I couldn’t be more proud of them for how much they are killing it! They are also the two most positive, energetic, beam of lights. Being around them instantly ups my mood. They are the kind of gals that you know will genuinely support you and get excited for your accomplishments. It has been a while since I have taken their class, so was happy to be there. They are heading to the Hamptons this summer (major!!), if you are there definitely take their class!

That afternoon I went to the Dermalogica event which showcased their new Vitamin C serum. They had a dermatologist there to exam our skin and talk about our skin care concerns and problems. My biggest concern is sunspots. Since SPF was not really something I used growing up, I have a few sunspots on my face that I want to get rid of. The dermatologist told me they are superficial, which will be easy to get rid of— hallelujah! Also at the event they had Radiant Human there to take our aura photos. I have been dying to try this! Aura photography is capturing the energy and vibration your body is currently releasing. They do this by colors and each color means something different. She had me sit in a dome on a chair facing a specialized camera (felt as if I was getting my headshot taken). She placed my hands on two metal boxes that she described to me as an outlet for my energy. My energy goes through the boxes and into the camera that captures the colors of my aura. After she took my picture she gave me a body map that shows the different areas of where my aura is and what they mean. The top of the head and most of the face is your thought/consciousness. Your right side of your body is self and the left is persona. I was excited and nervous to see what my colors will be. Well the ENTIRE picture was purple with hints of white on top and blue on the bottom. She explained to me that I am a dreamer, innovator, motivated by inspiration and the delight in others, I am big picture orientated. I looked this up further at home and seeing purple also means magical, divine  wisdom, spiritual, intuitive, enlightenment. It also means I could have psychic abilities! That would be cool if I do! The blue on my self and persona means I am sensitive. I have a hard time trusting people with my ideas and thoughts. I want to share to the world my creations but am afraid of who to share it with.  Blue is depth of feelings, loyalty, devotion, trust, personal relationships, intuitive and supportive. Pretty cool huh?!

Thursday evening I met up with an old friend of mine from the New York Junior League at The Standard. I have not seen her in probably 6 years as she moved back home to Florida a few months after we graduated from our provisional groups. Christina has started a new yoga activewear line called Soulgani. She was inspired to start this line after a life changing trip to Peru. Soulgani is still a very new company but it has already started to make waves as it is already in a few boutiques in Tampa, and Kelly from RHONYC sports her leggings on her Instagram. Christina and I chatted about our entrepreneurial motivations and ideas. I gave her insight into the blogging world and working with influencer. She gave me tips on how to start your own clothing company. It was so nice to see her after all of these years and to see how well she is doing!

This weekend is jammed packed with lots of fun, inspiring, and motivating events. Tonight’s event is with Kendra Scott, which should be fun. Then all day Saturday and Sunday I will be attending Popsugar Playground. The Playground is a convention filled with spiring entrepreneurs like Kate Hudson, Rebecca Minkoff, Mindy Kaling, Kayla Itsines of BGG guides, Gabrielle Bernstein, to name a few. I am SO SO SO excited for it! Especially since I am a HUGE fan of Gabrielle Bernstein. I’ve been wanting to see her talk for a long time. Besides the amazing panelist there will be fun booths to explore. I can’t wait to learn more about career, life, love, and to be inspired!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
